Thank you all for your kind thoughts, today has brought back a lot of distant memories. Stories of him and his brothers with there apparently large pre- war Hornby and Bassett Lowke railway, and my own first toy train set over 60 years ago. He greatly encouraged my interest in railways both model and full size, I will remember most fondly his broad smile when I gave him a footplate ride on our Std tank, yes I will miss him.

I am sorry to hear of you loss Martin, but pleased to read that he encouraged your interest in railways.

Sadly although I gained my interest in model railways from my dad it's not something that we ever discussed or had the opportunity to share. He passed away at 59 and another 10 years would pass before I returned to modelling.
