I thought the ornate arm on the water tank was to indicate the water level, but now that I see you've added a chain, I assume it's to open the valve to release the water. Was it like a toilet flush so only dispensed a set volume of water, or did the engine man have to pull and hold it?

Beautiful modelling.
Cheers,
Peter

Thank you Peter. That's very kind of you.

The chain is a bit heavy and will be replaced when I get something finer but as Pencarrers Minor states above, it's a pull chain..............

I'd expect differences, but the same loco, doing the same job, in the same location, would surely suffer quite similar weathering.

After all, all Vauxhall Vivas all rotted in the same places...

Yes all noted Simon but weathering is very subjective and a lot of factors come into play.

The Weather for one, cleaning regimes, damage suffered, repainting and preparation beforehand, age of locos, working environment so the resulting appearance will vary considerably between locos etc.

Above all, weathering adds character to an otherwise blank canvas.

My whole approach to modelling is a tad random to say the least so in that respect Nos. 1 & 2 will proudly display their individual testament to wear and tear.......

Ah yes!......a small run down wayside station on the former Lamb Valley Light Railway with a single siding retained for the local coal merchant and farmers...........ground level wooden ticket office cum ground frame....wooden faced, ash topped platform with a single name board set into a rising fern encrusted bank....goods yard bordered by low stone buildings of indeterminate age......weeds poking through the ballast....general atmosphere of a damp autumnal afternoon......with the waft of a coal fire from a nearby cottage drifting across....the flicker of an oil lamp from the office.........the cooing of a wood pigeon close by.......the scrape of the coal merchants shovel as he loads the sacks.......the earthy slightly fragrant smell of wet ferns.......the drip from the stand pipe in the yard...

All on your "standard" Ikea tabletop?
I watch with much interest...
