Afternoon all.

Thanks Keef. Very kind of you.

It's funny how things happen. A wanted ad on the other channel caused me to contemplate moving on my two Model Rail Sentinels as my planned Eastern adventure was cancelled.
I decided to get them out and give them a run and fettle.
No. 54 ran very well but an intial investigation showed some white grease that had gone a tad hard. A clean and all was well. The other had a pronounced limp...........A more intrusive tinker was called for. A full strip down was called for. First impressions showed that one of the axles was sitting at an odd angle.

The wheels on these chaps are on stub axles. They fit into plastic tubes on which are moulded the gear which connects the axles with the with the gearbox. One end of this tube had split and splayed out. It was this splaying that caused the axle to sit higher on one side. I had spares and swopped things over.

The little chap ran better, didn't hop about but there still seemed to be a bit of a glitch.

Checking the gears, I found a slight burr. Cleaned things up and all was well.

I decided to give the little chaps a run. (play)They are really nice to shunt with. Ridiculously slow, an hour was lost.....then my daughter popped in and asked what I was doing. I explained that I was making sure the little engines ran well as I was going to sell them.

Oh dear.

'Daddy. You can't do that. They look like the Iron Giant.........please don't sell them'

And that was that...........

So in addition to a 7mm adventure, I now appear to need somewhere for these 4mm Sentinels to play.........I do have a 3ft x 2ft Ikea coffee table........and a small shelf.........

Superb weathering Rob, I always find it difficult to believe you get such fine results with just Humbrol powders - brilliant!

Hi Rob, I've a question for you.
I'm going to use an IKEA shelf for a baseboard and I was wondering, do you use Electrofrog points and if so do you change the frog polarity or just use them out of the box?
I've always modified the points and used micro switches under the board to change polarity. I've never used Electrofrog points without modificatin so wondered how you got on with that?
Many thanks.

Steve.

Hi Steve.

Welcome to the Swedish side.

I use the electrofroggies straight from the box. No switches. Just as Mr Pritchard intended.
Relying on the point blades generally works but occasionally there is a bit of cleaning to the respective faces required.

Hope this helps. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
