West coast Railways class 40

While shopping in Lidl at Normanton today I heard the sound of a horn and looked across to see a West Coast Railways Class 40 pulling another 40 then a 47 then another 40 (all in Blue/yellow). Not my area of interest - confirmed kettle fan   but I thought it may be of interest to someone on here.

I thought 40145 was the only mainline class 40 ? ..........not that I would know they have the wrong kind of engine & transmission

It may be me that is completely wrong Phill - they all looked the same and I Googled West Coast Railways to see what they had that looked like what I had seen - not very scientific I know. But hey I do profess to know absolutally nothing about anything that doesn't run on coal (and not much about them that do  )

I have the same trouble with Kettles....  ;) ;)

Were the "40s" you saw Maroon?, or at least, meant to be maroon under all the dirt?? :shit:

Don't West Coast Railways run some old 37s in Maroon, which, with a very similar cab design to the 40s (as they were both made by English Electric),would go a fair way to explain things..??

Hi Jordan, One was Maroon or what passes for it and the others were Blue with yellow ends. I only put 40's as Googled West Coast Trains and found a photo that had a maroon 40- or at least that's what it said it was. Three of them looked the same so I guessed they were but some of them may have been 37's. There was only one under power the other four were being towed - the exhaust was quite clear in the still air.
