I

I'd like to report this obscene e-mail. Everybody (with BLUE blood) knows the only colour for a Wezzie is a true BR blue and I vote Locomodels, Graham and Peter are all sent to the naughty corner for a month.

Yours,

Boris;)

Hi Boris,
Surely it has to be better than Green, which is the colour of my kettles. (Trying to avoid the naughty corner).

Many thanks for the B'day wishes. Had a glorious afternoon on the service trains, and even grabbed a few minutes in the cab for the run-around the train at Kidderminster. '62 is performing very nicely indeed - a little water discharged but we can forgive her a weak bladder at this age and no harm done (fortunately no water in cylinders:) this spring), and all bodes well for the big celebrations tomorrow when she works the main diner and two full round service trips. She sounds fantastic - only problem is the power-offs to observe the speed restrictions which come along all too soon. Lots of great memories being discussed, including China Clays, racing Deltics on the ECML, day trips around South Wales, Wizzos to Hayle and St Ives, driving in Laira and Canton, D1056 on THE railtour of all final railtours, and those infamous red plates on D1013.......

Back in my tent now..... fire on, red wine in hand, happy family, and all is at peace in Shropshire.....

Looking forward to another Birthday celebration tomorrow!

Boris.

I'd like to report this obscene e-mail. Everybody with RED blood knows that the only colour for a WR Western is BR Maroon (unless the Wezzie is Enterprise as outshopped when built) and I vote that non-believers are sentenced to - um, what is the penalty for being a non-believer?

regards, Graham

Ah, you have a fair point there, Locomodels, and so it's just to the back of the class for you!

Boris;)

Thanks for your understanding Boris. Though I have to say that the grand old lady does look damn good in her shiny Maroon. As a non-diesel kettle boiler you must appreciate how difficult that was for me to say. Also that I find it is very hard to believe that anything so modern as a diesel, could possibly be fifty years old. Amazing !;)

Yes, and I quite agree that she does look a picture, and I fully understand you difficulty being trapped in the green kettle corridor;) , but I'm really pleased with your "modern" comment as, with my personal achievement of 49 yrs today, the thought of (perhaps) still being amazing has come as a really warming thought! :D Thankyou!

Hi Boris,

Happy Birthday mate:thumbs:.

Great pics. :) Hope all goes well for the rest of the weekend.. Dont forget to take more pics:D

Hows Ranger progressing ??

Rob:)
Hi Rob,

I had a walk around Ranger today - she's been shunted out to the area in front of our workshops for display, but the volunteers are also taking advantage of the time she's there to fit replacement wiring, and what looks like miles of wire has been pulled through conduits over the past couple of days. We also saw the completed wiring looms containing the various relays, etc., being lifted back into position under the control desks, so things are well in hand. The optimists say 3 years 'til back in service - sceptics say 5-6 years. Whatever it turns out to be, we should have two serviceable locos for a while which will be great to enjoy whilst we can.

I also heard that D1015, whilst sadly not fit to join our Gala, IS on schedule for her main-line return on the Mazey Day trip from Birmingham to Penzance... PHEW! Cos I bought tickets for this one! The thought of a '52 on the Devon Banks was too good to miss, but the disappointment of '15 not being ready would have been too much to bear. Fortunately, we should be ok.

Your bogies are almost done and will be heading home in about 2 weeks from now....

All the best, mate.

Boris.

Western to Cornwall 290613.jpg Just wanted to drop a line to let folks know that following a water leak on number 9 cylinder of B-End engine on D1062, Dave Oliver and I were involved in relining and replacing the piston yesterday as we aim to get her back in traffic in a couple of weeks time. I'll do a video of the next one - it's quite a job!

Also, a BIG thanks to the DPS and DB Shenker (Drivers) for sorting out D9009 throughout on the Mazey Day to Penzance. We touched 105 mph on the Somerset levels on the return journey with many smiling (and one or two "concerned") faces;).

Of course, I just HAD to see a Western at Penzance after the disappointment of D1015 not quite being ready for the trip....:D

Hi Boris

Glad you had a great trip.

Lets hope Courier wont be out of traffic too long;) so get yer finger out mate and get it sorted:)) .

Were a bit posh are'nt we travelling first class. ;) us mere plebs could only afford second class at a push. Third class if they still did it would be an option.:))

I'm planning a long overdue visit to the SVR sometime over the next month.

Do you by any chance have any details of the Western's running days please?

A sunny day, a Western and several pints of Batham's Best on the train...........
