Riddles! He deserves greater credit for what BR achieved than he has been received so far.

They tested 9f Black Prince at the Foster Yeoman quarries it pulled 2178 tons, I read that somewhere and that BR stopped using the class on expresses because they were being clocked at running close to 100mph with no speedo apparently the drivers could push these beasts to the upper limits as everything on the loco felt right . just imagine if they had roller bearings !!

heres a link of the beast in question

I must have tempted fate with my last posting of demolition trains as within a month mrs Beeching (ex swmbo) closed Dan y Graig Junction . the layout was dismantled and most of the stock sold off to help fund my new abode . but out of the ashes has risen a small end to end layout which I shall be naming Chapel Street . the layout is portable and measures 8ft 3ins and splits into two sections its been wired for dcc operation . I did think that I had a problem with my nce power cab unit as it kept switching off after a couple of hours of checking the wiring I realised that one of the turnouts was a live frog unit doh:rolleyes: . It seems that my latest layout has shrunk ! must be all this rain .... Chapel St was sold off last summer in order to fund some n gauge stock I built a tail chaser to get back into 2mm modelling but forgot about the running qualities of short chassis locos stalling at slow speed on insulfrog turnouts so that layout was also sold on, my latest effort is an end to end layout approx. 6ft by 1ft using a mixture of code 80 and code 55 track with electro frog points the track plan is similar to Chapel St , featuring a branch line terminus with a small upper and lower goods yard and a canal side factory/creamery .

Hi Westernfan:)

You seem to have a knack of stimulating my interest in your projects in whatever scale you choose & your latest venture into N scale is no exception ..........superb!

The backscene is very effective as are the differing levels.....reminds me of Geoff's previous layout.

Modelling on a £1200 table.
Nery nice layout. . Some excellent offerings in N nowadays. Code 55 rail is a massive improvement too, think you'll find with elecrofrog points things will run a lot smoother. Avoid old farish offerings they tended to run like s#@t thro pointwork..

Nice to see you back again... (need to get my finger out and do some modelling now)

I was going to build a small O gauge layout on a 6 by 2 board with a feed in fiddle yard , honest  but I knew that I wouldn't be happy with the lack of running space .as it would be only an auto trailer and 14xx appearing from a tunnel /bridge scenic break directly into a station etc the track plan that I built in N would require approx. 24ft in O
though I did have a play about with my o gauge stuff

I suppose that there is a similar theme to Geoff's previous layout mainly due to the bridge and that this is also a western region branch set in a mid wales location I had to think out of the box for the differing levels as this is my first attempt . much planning ahead etc

P1040462(1).JPG

I constructed a 6ft by 1ft frame out of 2"by 1" then fixed lengths of 3" by 1" to the cross members then screwed some 9mm ply to the risers for the track bed for the scenics I mixed normal filler mixed with dark grey paint and pva , then whilst still wet I sprinkled my favourite scatter powders for the embankment and cutting

Yes code 55 is the way to go for a good representation of perm way unless one goes further 2mm fs , a bit too much for my mk1 eye balls . there are some great models on the market nowadays a dramatic improvement on the old gf stuff with their pizza cutter wheels this layout has been constructed with a mixture of various peco track as I was originally going to build the layout with code 80 and electro frog turnouts but due to me having a few bevies and pressing the wrong button on the bay I ended up buying a job lot of code 55 turnouts still not to worry they will used on my next project .

I do like the GF class 108 its a great little model and runner

Well that helps:D....but so does the imaginative use of the space available & I have always been drawn to branch line railways.....especially the BR(WR) variety ;)
