Thanks for that link, Steph.
I have been thinking of something slightly similar for my D63xx, with a single tower in the middle where the prototype had its hydraulic transmission, and cardan shafts out to each bogie with Slaters' helical gearboxes on each axle.

I sketched some Slaters Gearboxes this morning and they would certainly fit and I have a source for suitable spur gears should they be needed, so the whole thing is feasible and would come in about the £150 mark

Well after something of a hiatus, I have decided to go with 2 ABC Diesel gearboxes and Maxon coreless motors. Using several gearboxes is just going to take too much time to engineer whereas using the ABC units will let me get on with the build over the summer, just leaving me to worry about some sideframes

A couple of shots to show what you get in the kit...
All the parts laid out with a 12inch ruler for scale ;D

Some of the poly bags of lost wax parts and the pre folded truss

Finally resin dynamo etc

I will need to order some wheels from Slaters and looking at the size of the body im wondering if a spraygun will be more use than an airbrush - still that is some way off yet.
If anybody has any detail pictures of either Sk's or BSK's I would find them useful 8)

Very nice.
Contact Dave Hammersley at Roxey Mouldings first: he had some coach wheels produced to ScaleOne32 profile, and may still have some in stock.

This looks like a Fred Phipps kit. His brass work and resin fittings are fabulous. In fact everything that Fred produces is fantastic.

For the wheels, Slaters only list wagon wheels in Gauge 1 on their website:-
https://slatersplastikard.com/wheels/ga ... Wheels.php

Roxey Mouldings do some coach wheels in Gauge 1, but unfortunately do not list them on their website:-
http://www.roxeymouldings.co.uk/store_f ... EEL+WHEELS
They produce wheelsets in three different back to back dimensions, something like 40mm, 41mm and 42mm. I have seen these sets and they look quite nice, and I think they are about the same price as Slaters wheels.

For general photos you could start here:-

But for more detail, try "British Railways Mark 1 Coaches" by Keith Parkin. It's an HMRS publication, ISBN 0 902835 22 X. Plenty of information and detail photos. There is also a supplement to this book by the same author and with the same title. The supplement lists coach formations, with coach identities and several formations are listed as being hauled by class 35, 42 and 52 - what more could you ask for!

Photos are very good, some good detail photos as well, but also some obscure coach diagrams are covered.

For painting, I sprayed my 1/32nd class 22 using Precision 150ml cans. I know that Steve Harrod has painted his class 22 / 42 by airbrush and he remarked that it was a laborious task - you have to make sure that you mix up enough paint, and get it on the model.

First off, congratulations on opening the box, it is interesting to see what the "raw kit" consists of as I have only ever seen Fred's completed coaches so far.

I think you're a brave man, but you have a good track record of completing models to a good standard so I very much look forward to seeing what you make of these coaches.

I'll buy you a bottle of decent bubbly when you've completed them, to be delivered at Wenbridge Junction of course - there might be a carriage siding laid by the time you've done three!!

Well done that man

Regarding wheels, I would agree with Simon and Roger, get some of Dave Hammersley's wheels. They don't cost much more than Slaters, are really lovely, and they also run beatifully through ScaleOne32 trackwork (and G1F).

Last time I spoke to Dave he had plenty left and if you buy some of these he might be galvanised into producing a scale wagon disc wheel. Of the three types that he produced and which Roger lists above, he had sold far more of the "dead scale" than any other when I last spoke to him, but despite this he still wanted to "see what the reaction was" before going any further.

Hopefully a phone call and order from an intelligent chap like you will help him to see which way to go :headbang:

He also supplies suitable brass bearings, the axle ends are 2mm dia I think.

You and me both

I hesitate to ask this round here, but what colour are they going to be?

I can't get over just how mahoosive it is!  Going from 7mm to scale to 10mm scale doesn't sound like a lot, but in reality.....

Thanks chaps, I have made contact with Dave Hammersley and an order for 12 axles will be going in tomorrow.
Roger, when I last spoke to Steve he said that he used a combination or aerosol and airbrush on his Warship. I have a copy of the HMRS book but you can never have too many photos  :)

MTH, I will be in touch

10mm scale
Wash your mouth out with soap, if not strong acid, young man.
Gauge 1 done properly avoids all this "metric mix" nonsense and uses a sensible ratio of 1:32.

Really, the youth of today...

Its not that intimidating  :)) the biggest thing with coaches is the repetitive nature of the detailing. The plan is to crack on with all three before I start the 63 or Warship, I feel really excited about these and there will be a few extras going in  8)
As to the colour, in an ideal world I would have two or three rakes in different liveries, but back in reality that isnt going to happen so they will most likely Maroon and Blue/Grey, which would look rather nice with Druid in Maroon full yellow. There is also the enticing thought of hitching up to Freds coaches with a bit of double headed Warship action..........

Paint roller.  ;D Before anyone starts foaming at the mouth that's what we used to paint the full size jobbies at York in the late seventies, most economical with the paint.

why not do one side Maroon and the other Blue/Gray, 2 for the price of one. ::)
