Yes... It works...

Brilliant  - it's great to see them stretch their legs a bit - although those coaches look a little drafty.

Lovely video pal, very enjoyable to watch that, do you have another G5 on the go? I like the 'British Railways' on the tank sides,

Thanks for the comments, unfortunately very definitely not my railway room, though I might have laid a sleeper or two, and the odd length of track..

Those coaches need a lot of cosmetic work Adrian. They were a test to see just how quickly I could get some s7 coaches up and running.. Turns out about a day a coach, but I'm not so good with getting rolling stock finished :(

Of course it works!

Not having seen anything much in the way of more expansive S7 model railways, this is an encouraging display. Out of curiosity, what is the ruling radius of curvature and is your L1 compensated or sprung? It looks very convincing, but can we have some video of it creeping across some turnouts as a bonus?

Best regards

Tom

Hi Tom,

Not entirely sure what the ruling radius is on the layout actually, Richard Carr would know far better than I, but I know that there is a section of the fiddle yard about half way through the above video where a check rail has been needed, I would say maybe a very brief 6 foot perhaps? Not something that would want a habit making of though..

The L1 is fully sprung. Quite a bit of playing about was needed with the rear bogie springing, due to the frames having correct bearing plates, rather than a giant spring on the pivot, which meant that the bogie wouldn't rock up and down, fore and aft of its centre pivot if that makes sense..?

I've seen very good compensation in the past, but I would say I'm more keen to try CSB in the future.. Watch this space..

I'll try and get some more video next time, but we only meet once a week...

Your L1 looks superb JB, probably one of the best examples I've seen.
Sorry about me in the video trying to count the passengers in the coaches:))

Hello JB,

It is good to confirm my suspicion that the L1 is sprung - it definitely made very little noise as it passed rail joins and so-on, and it just glides along. Glad to hear the bogie is being made to do some work as per the prototype, but I am fully aware that doing this sort of thing is generally hard work (many of my clients enjoy specifying springing on their models). When the jump to 7mm scale is properly made, I also hope to use springing in my models, but I expect I will need to look at it in a slightly different way.

Meeting once a week is pretty good I reckon - I once went 18 months between visits to my group, but am settling on twice a year at the moment. 240 miles is a long way to go to play trains...

Thanks Tim et al, comments much appreciated.

I'm worried though that this thread has been mis-read.. The video is there to prove that Scale 7 works , and if you spend a little time getting it right it works well. On Wednesday night, the L1 was continuously lapping for around 2 hours without a single issue other than slightly dirty wheels at the start due to the weathering for the Telford competition..

Once again thanks for the comments, but the L1 was purely a prop to help show S7 standards in action and dis-proving the whole idea of S7 stock only ever being 'static' exhibits...

Hi JB I know that this post is to show that S7 works, can you put pictures of the above as I would love to see it.
