Cynric Re reading a post you made in a topic by Phill you said that you could order Laser cut doors for the Tri-ang Big Big coaches as i have 8 to do I was wondering if it was still possible to get the doors cut on masse

Yes, I just need a dimensioned sketch of what you want and I will draw it. A photo of the coach would be helpful as well. I recently had some signal box window done and they were very good.

Just a thought but, have you considered having the doors etched ?..........I don't know which would be the most cost-effective

According to the site its a minimum order value of ?35 so I want 48 doors so if each door costs ?1 I am still on a winner as I have not had to file and fit said beasties

Can someone post a picture of the door in question? The advantage of etching is the ability to solder handles etc and for a quantity of say 150 I would think it is cheaper

Thanks Phill, looking at that the door will need to be cut from the original side, and it will probably be easier to form brass to match the sides rather than plastic as it will hold its shape, but then im not the one doing the conversion!!
it might also be an idea to make a template for cutting the old door to ensure consistency.... just a thought

Phill can i ask you a question about the side detail you left on the coach I know you said the gutter and window frames where left untouched but there is another raised strip under the gutter did you remove this as well.

Cynric I have a door removed from the coach but not cut to size the door is flat fronted could you work out what you want if i gave you a section of coach with the door openings in it showing the curves

Yes I could probably work it out from that. in effect its only going to be a rectangle with a a window cut out. it really comes down to cost then i suspect etching will be cheaper, although the Rowmark doors may be easier to glue in place with plastic weld.

Yes Ian I removed all the side detail apart from the gutter & window frames ;) , I gradually scraped it all away with a round 'Swan Morton' blade (very slowly & carefully especially near the window frames)
