The whistle sounds every time I put it on the track... ...cleaning the wheels is annoying as it whistles at me every time I move the contact to the next wheel.

Whistle while you work... dah, dee, dah, dee, dah dumm.

Just think you pleasant if the engine went bee-barp every time, the air would be "blue" .

Do you know if a reset is available without screwing-up the sound project? (It is usually achieved by entering value 8 into CV8?)

Hi Tim

All it says in the bumph is ''CV08 is a reset to Howes default as of 1/7/09''

Do you suggest I hit the reset?

Yes, go for it.

If that doesn't sort it, I suggest you could contact Bryan for advice, but I fear it may need to go back for a re-blow.

Hi Guys

I have an irritating issue with a chip I have just installed.

The whistle - F2 - sounds every time I put it on the track. By which I mean every time, whether the sound (F1) is on OR NOT. Bizarre. As you can imagine, cleaning the wheels is annoying as it whistles at me every time I move the contact to the next wheel.

The chip is a Jinty chip from Howes, a Loksound V4, not the XL.

Has anyone come across this? Is there a fix? Is it a faulty chip? All seems well apart from this issue, although it only went in yesterday, and I haven't played with the loco much.

Richard

Richard it's in the default settings and so re-setting won't help. Both my Howes steam decoders do it...

I've tried this on RMWeb to no avail. I'm sure you are all far more knowledgeable.

I have a couple of Loksound 3.5XL to install. When I set up a test rig with various LEDs and resistors, it seems that on Aux 5 & 6 I cannot turn lights off, I can only dim them. On Aux 1 to 4 I can switch them off. The CV settings on the decoder (115-120) are all the same so why the different behaviour? There is nothing the Lokound manual about this.

Clearly I am missing something. Any suggestions?

John,

Did you do a Reset after installing? It sounds like there's some values lodged in the CVs for the dimming settings, so Reset should sort it. If it doesn't work let us know and I'll have a dig round in the manual to give some more specific help.

Steph

Yes I have done several resets to no avail. I can find no reference in the manual to different behaviour on Aux 5 &6 apart from the fact they they can be connected to Reed switches.

I may talk to SWD at Reading on Saturday.

Still mystified.

Hi John

Do you have a Loksound Programmer or SPROG II?

I've just looked at my Lokprogrammer for XLv3.5 decoder and it looks like you have to assign aux outputs 5 & 6 to functions in order to switch them off. Below is a screen shot of the ESU LokSound programmer. The blue crosses show which functions are activated. Apologies if you have already tried this. Apart from the reed switches aux outputs 1 to 6 have the same choice of lighting assignments.
