Does anyone know of a supply of dummy, cast brass cylinder drain cocks for G3/G1 or maybe even 7mm? I bought a nice water gauge from Hobbyhorse Developments once but they seem to have ceased trading. Jon P.S. I've looked at Shapeways and nothing there.
They may be a bit big for you but most of the live steam model fittings companies can supply working drain cocks in various sizes Look at Polly/Bruce engineering, Maidstone engineering, Live Steam models and AJ Reeves. Eg Cylinder Drain Cock - Cylinder Drain Cocks & Oil Cups - Fittings And Cylinder drain cocks And Cylinder Draincocks & Lubricator Tanks - ajreeves.com Cheers John K
John Thanks for the reply but, I think that they may all be too big. In fact, I have looked at some of those sites already. Maybe, I should have written 'Dummy cylinder drains cocks' as they really don't need to function. Jon
Can you not fabricate them from bits of tube and wire, I think the hardest part would be bending the outflow.
Phil The latest idea to pop into my head was to buy a water gauge and cut off the drain cock part and use those. I've yet to actually look for the said water gauge. Jon
Jamie Page has suggested using handrail knobs and add the separate pieces as necessary. I'm going to order some 7mm to check for size but, I thought that G1 may be worth a try as well. Does anyone know where I can buy some G1 handrail knobs? I have searched t'internet but nothing comes up. Jon
Hi Jon, Give Iain at CPS Models (Sanspareil Castings) a call. He does all the castings for MOK and others I believe and is very helpful. Sanspareil Works - 7mm Finescale 01228 810767 Cheers, Peter
Iain does indeed make probably the best investment cast bits for the model community and is also very helpful. Just be aware of his lead times. Mike
It took about 3-4 weeks for my last order but the parts were excellent. Unless there is a deadline to meet, draincocks can be added any time.
I tried to send Ian an enquiry on his website but couldn't make the thing work so, I left a message on his answering machine. I wonder if I should have been logged in. Jon
