Prototype Eastern Shore Railroad. VA

In a previous life when I worked for a living, part of many job was to visit the US at least four times a year, usually to work with the US sales team out of their Virginia Beach office.
During one of my weekends off, I stumbled upon a delightful little short line called Eastern Shore. The depot and yard area I discovered had a highway bridge one end and a car float operation the other. Perfect inspiration for a small US layout. I was welcomed and allowed to take photographs and here are some of the locos in operation during my many visits.

I also have pictures of freight cars too, so if there’s any interest, I’ll post them too.
It’s all very tempting and luring me away from Stroudley Park! Maybe.
Regards,
Ian

There’s a good mix following; Conrail, Penn Central and, would you believe it - Pennsylvania. Enjoy.

Next up, Boston area or Norfolk Southern at Lambert Point, Norfolk VA?IMG_8752.jpeg
Seems I failed to post this pic. I think these Pennsylvania hoppers belonged to the local historical society.

I would hazard a guess Richard, somewhere between 1998 and 2002. Some pics are not date stamped but one set has 01-14-1 which seems about right for 14 January 2001 and about the right time for a US sales meeting trip.

Here’s some more pics for you freight car fans. IMG_8777.jpegIMG_8778.jpeg
These two pics show the highway bridge at the entry to the yard. So model railway.

I really liked the weathering on this covered hopper, also showing traces of a 1970’s era ACI label.

This caboose was appropriately parked outside a train store.

My employing company manufactured bearings that were used on the Lambert Point coal conveyers in Norfolk VA. That gave me access to trackside locations and here are few pics taken during a busy lunch break. A procession of heavy duty motive power and a couple of GP7’s or GP9’s cut down into slugs. All taken around 2001.

This GP40 along with 1362 were used for switching duties as shown coupled to a pair of slugs from cut down Geeps.

That’s all for now folks.
