Not having travelled on a train for a few years now and certainly not through Shenfield I hadn't realised that this old ballast brake was still there, must be decades now !
I assume this is a 20 ton BR built version based on the LMS 16 ton design ? Hope it goes for preservation.

It was there when I started at UEA as an undergraduate in 1999 and had, apparently, been there for a decade before that. Yes, it's a BR-built one. There's a nice gallery of images here: The Shenfield Shark and was apparently up for sale the other year.

From what I understand there is no way to remove it and should it be cut up on site would need a possession tking!

Made me think if there is still one of its siblings lurking and forgotten at Tavistock Junction... It was still there last year.
