7mm Scratchy Bottom/Lowick back from the dead.

I thought I should post some photos of our current 7mm layout. It currently operates in two configurations 16ft and 22ft depending on the number of boards used.
As it's set in a marshy area which could be anywhere in the UK I can just about justify running what I like on it, with a quick change of buildings. At the moment it either runs as LBSCR/LSWR and Great Eastern as Scratchy Bottom and North Eastern Lowick.
The layout should have been at the NEC last year but we had to pull out due to illness which was disappointing but these things happen.
Workington2 (2).JPG solrail_workington_model_railway_exhibition.jpg We will be at the Folkstone Model show, as Scratchy Bottom LBSCR/LSWR, in October and possibly Workington in November.
The layout is very portable as it is designed to fit in a car and only needs two operate so we don't need van hire to get us to show.

Now that GuildEx is over for another year I can get beck to a bit of work on the layout for next months show at Folkstone Show. The right hand traverser has been stripped down and will have the a cross over going on. Managed to pick another Terrier for a knockdown price it would have been rude not to. I have managed to start sorting the other stock out. I also picked 2 part built Roxey Mouldings from ebay last month.

I missed a Guildex, hopefully, I can make Folkestone, as it’s walking distance...

Looking forward to it

A few more wagons finished. Track is is now down and wired on the new board. Its yet to be tested but that should be a formality. Fenchurch and our LSWR Terrier have also been out of the box. We have moved the platform to add a bit more interest.

Just built two 2 plank ballast wagons from Sixteen Mills kits. Not bad for £25 including the wheels. However there is no raised strapping or rivets. So I will have to add these before they can go to the paint shop.
Also I completed the electrical testing so ballast will go down tomorrow morning.

I'm now looking for an operator for Scratchy Bottom at Folkestone show on either the 5th or 6th of October. My Dad who is normally the second operator has slipped a disc in his back and is unable to go to the show. So if anyone fancies operating please contact me.

Some more progress on the new board. The rail and chairs got a coat of light rust then the whole lot got a coat of my grot mixture. The foam then got a covering in brown. Tomorrow the rail heads will be rubbed down, point blades cleaned and the slide chairs scraped. Then the static grass machine will be broke out.

Some more photos of the progress on the new board and the passenger brake van. I should have finished the grass tomorrow and the brake van should be through the paint shop as well.

Its been awhile since I posted in his thread. Nothing has really happened with the layout itself as it's been locked away in my Dad's garage so I've managed to get a sneaky look before we moved to T4.

I should probably say that the layout is now firmly set between 1895 and 1905 somewhere near Portsmouth on a Joint LBSCR/LSWR branch. My 5th LBSCR IEG Terrier arrived this morning and I have ordered 2 of the dapol coaches to go with the rest of the LBSCR stock. I'm working on some small LSWR tanks next. I'm in to minds to completely rebuild "Fenchurch" into a NSWGR N-67 or repaint her into LSWR 735.

Ah-ha, rule #1 in action ;). However you'll have to have a LBSC and LSW loco facing each other at a stand off to see which one blinks first, and a pitched battle between loco crews :).

Historically the LBSC and LSW were always feuding and a joint branch line would been highly unlikely. Midhurst in Hants bore this out where there was a LBSC and LSW station linked by a light bridge only capable of taking wagons - locos were too heavy to cross onto each other's territory!

There was a good bit of cooperation around Portsmouth. There was joint working into Portsmouth and the jointly owned Southsea branch where they even had jointly owned steam rail motors. With the loco part painted LSWR and coach section LBSCR. But they weren't introduced until 1905.

I have the Marsh umber terrier 643 and the LSWR 734 and one day, sometime, maybe, a little something shunty planky on Portsea Island may appear.
Why there?
Both locos, in the condition Dapol have made them, were shedded at Fratton for a couple of years either side of 1910 requiring a slightly smaller modicum of Rule 1.
Too many things to model. too little of everything else to do it all.......

Just a quick update. We have a few shows now booked into the diary
20th/21st November 2021 Workington
10/11 December 2022 Manchester
21/22 January 2023 Kendal.
We might be taking the layout to Barrow in October but we might be taking WC Boggs.

All 3 bookings are for the layout in its 24ft or 30ft version so I have some wood work to do and some more stock to build.

Finally got into my Dad's garage on Wednesday and started to put the layout back together. only to find the board I built to allow me to operate the layout as a terminus had go bashed so we are back to being 22ft long in the short term, at least. I just have to build two traversers now and we can operate trains again.

Just a quick update. We are now also going to the North West O gauge show in Leigh in April next year. We are now getting ready for Workington show next month.
Just printed off the first of our updated LSWR 28ft coaches. This one is a 2 compartment brake 3rd.
