Browsing RMweb yesterday, I came across this thread on Dapol's intention to produce Class 122 and, I think, Class 121 DMUs in 7mm scale....

Dapol 122 dmu in O gauge - Dapol

There were some test shots on display at Alexandra Palace and somebody fortunately took a couple of pictures of them (see post #5).

Even at this early stage, they certainly look the part and this is great news as far as I'm concerned - well done Dapol. Here's what they have to say....

Hi Dan,

many thanks for posting. Sandite and Route Learner versions should be a straight forward conversion, especially with no great can motor sticking up in the Guards area to contend with for the Route Learner seating.

Hi Mike

I think these will be just as popular, if not more so, than the recent rtr 08s and pannier tanks.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing gazillions of ex GWR branch line layouts getting built and featured on forums and in magazines (one of which will be mine, if I can ever fit something plausible into an 8ft length). Surely anyone who's currently undecided about taking the plunge into 7mm, will now be pushed over the edge? These single car units are the ultimate "small train" in 7mm, so let's hope so! :))

Didn’t they try them out on the branch to Gunnislake?
Calstock viaduct would make an impressive centrepiece :)

Class 121 where also used on the Maiden Newton to Bridport branch.

Gerry Beales book mentions them being used to shunt goods stock in Maiden
Newton goods yard!

Tower are offering the DC version @ £244.16 as opposed to Hattons £254.15 - the DCC prices sound and basic are the same for both traders.

Hattons may well charge for postage too, whereas Tower don't if the goods are more than £150.00.

I think the Dapol announced version is just the 122 DMU.

Heljan are already doing a 121 DMU (at nearly double the price of the Dapol version)
I'm tempted by the Dapol...

The only significant difference between the two are the headcode boxes on the roof and the 122 initally had them below the windows as well.

That's what suddenly struck me about this - the Dapol DCC/Sound fitted versions are cheaper - by some way (on Tower's website) than the plain 12vDC Heljan units!!
Suddenly there's some very stiff competition in the field!! Look out, Heljan!!
