View attachment 149061 Not the best picture but the junction boxes have arrived and the lights are working. I will add 6” strips of 6mm ply across the tops backed with foil to help concentrate the light downwards and to alleviate the glow above the layout, this will also help to support the fiddle yard area whilst transporting the layout and protect the lighting underneath.
The layout is packed away again now until the laser cut pits arrive and I’ll get it out in the garden and take some pictures in the dark to see how affective the strip lights are.
I’ve also ordered 6m of warm white LED strip lights that will go on the underside of the foil backed ply.
Pits on route.

Lighting options on Canton, the bottom is the warm white LeD strip lights, I will be adding some more of these and I think for most places these will suffice. Then for the Dark halls we have the super bright LED strip lights.
The first two shots are taken with a very fast shutter speed to cut out the glow.2189BFC6-E00A-4B8F-BD87-D8BBE22F5B7D.jpeg194BF72B-F281-4651-B2E9-E21A8626B3FE.jpegBF3CFF6D-6A42-4818-A19D-17008215A528.jpeg8712121F-2FED-4704-BBCD-CEADB594A93D.jpeg

D6BBDFCC-E65A-4C07-B29E-58B19964F0BA.jpeg I’ve made the decision to hand lay the track on Canton, I don’t know about anyone else but it’s taking an age to get anything from C&L I’m still waiting on a box a flexi, chairs and rail ordered 7 weeks ago.
Using an old piece of flexi I’ve marked the correct sleeper spacing and used up my current stock of sleepers, A friend is picking up some exactoscale chairs for me this weekend and another order for sleepers has been placed with Intentio, the last two 400mm pits have been made up and fixed in place.

Considering non-delivery and out-of-stock started during March 2020 lockdown, it has barely improved in 18 months. When everything else is also taken into consideration, this country isn't working.

In my experience Larry it was an issue long before that with Mr. C & L, unfortunately I had to cancel my orders and get a refund due to lots of empty promises.
I have since found a more reliable source of point kits etc which arrive on the due date.

Fully agree with this, gave up using him before Covid. Endless string of excuses and "woe is me" stories. With so many unfortunate incidents occurring I can't help but think the proprietor's actions (or lack of) may be partly to blame.

Seemed to have very little in the way of stock at GETS last weekend and was heard to say that he didn't expect many to attend. I recall at Stafford show about 3+ years ago that he brought no 7mm track parts with him, with the explanation being that he didn't think 7mm modellers would be attending. And a show before that where I was due to collect and pay for an order. The order hadn't been put together and it wasn't available until much later in the day, and not everything available because it had already been sold.

"Organised" isn't a word I'd use for C&L.

I went to a show a few years ago to collect an order for 12 lengths of flexi track from him, as agreed by a phone call three days before the show.
On collecting the order, he gave me a box containing 10 lengths and said would I consider having the other box containing another 10 as he didn’t really want to open another box just so I could have the 2 I needed. I laughed thinking it was a joke, but he was dead serious. A very strange little chap, and I certainly won’t be dealing with him again, I stood my ground and received my complete original order.

Personally, I think his main customers are into OO/ EM / P4 , and 7mm is just a thorn in his side.

When I said "considering non-delivery and out-of-stock started during March 2020 lockdown, it has barely improved in 18 months", in fairness to C&L, I was not referring to any one specific retailer. I did, however, have one in mind! Time for another beer.

Luckily a friend of mine had two boxes of C&L flexi going spare so at least I can get going again on Westbourne Bridge and there should be enough for the midland shed project and to finish Sonning and from now on I’ll source the components else where, another friend kindly collected a pack of exactoscale chairs from
The scale 7 show on Saturday so with the ones hopefully eventually coming from C&L I’ll have enough to finish Canton as with all the pits I’ll need a few.
