The flagship event of the EM Gauge Society is back for 2022 and will take place over the weekend of May 14th/15th at the now well-established venue of Bracknell Leisure Centre. On display will be at least eight finescale layouts representing the best in 4mm scale modelling. In addition there will also be an opportunity to view the winning entries in the ‘Chairman’s Challenge EMGS Track Competition’. Plus we still have our guest layout feature, this year in the form of Foston Mills in 7mm scale. As usual there will be plenty of opportunity to stock up on modelling supplies with a good range of specialist traders in attendance. In addition there will be a variety of ‘Show you how’ demonstrations and other special interest society stands. There will also be the EM and P4 test track, the EMGS trade stand - selling amongst other things, the Society’s range of EM track and points, in addition to the ever popular members’ second hand sales.

Alan Austin of Ambis Engineering has contacted us to say that unfortunately he will be unable to attend expoEM Spring this year due to ‘logistical and medical issues’. Post#1 has been amended accordingly.

John Chivers has contacted us to say that unfortunately he will be unable to attend expoEM Spring next weekend with 'Shwt'. Post#1 has been amended accordingly. To quote Tony Sullivan, exhibition manager, "It never rains but it pours!"

South Pelaw is packed up and ready to go… hopefully it will still work when we put it together again.

Sadly we won’t be able to reproduce the volcanic exhaust and sound of two 9Fs getting to grips with 500 tons of iron ore on a 1 in 56 gradient, but we will aim to run trains that represent the main traffics through this important junction.

As well as iron ore heading up the bank from Tyne Dock to Consett steelworks, and empties returning, there will be steel products from Consett, steel empties, oil from Jarrow to Consett (apparently this was the one to watch — two Q6s going flat out, and more spectacular than the ore trains), coal going up the bank to the steelworks, coal going in the other direction from Stella Gill (sidings in the foreground in the picture) to staithes on the Tyne, empty coal hoppers, tar products from Stella Gill coke works, and maybe even a passenger train.

We have managed to replace Shwt with two small EM layouts, Dunelm and Whitewater, both exhibited by Mike Fishwick.

Both of these layouts are for sale and will be available for collection at the close of the show on Sunday.

The full list of demonstrations has been added to Post #1.

The EMGS test track with three EM circuits and one P4 circuit has also been added.

Went today, and was really impressed. The Challenge layouts, all small and recently built with EMGS track and points, were really good —- I wouldn’t want to choose a winner.

Really good show today, plenty of demo's and some useful tip's picked up. Only gripe is the total lack of food. Think someone should have a word with the catering manager.

It was a very good show. A few gripes/things to be aware of for anyone travelling today: I took the penultimate sandwich at 11am, so I've not idea what happened when people went for lunch. It was also very slow service (10 mins to serve the 3 people in front of me) and very expensive - £7.50 for a sandwich, a bottle of water and a bottle of orange juice. I was hoping to find a Co-op in the area and get my own food, but had spent long enough already trying to find the place (see below). There seemed to be no nearby shops.
The leisure centre was actually open for "normal" people yesterday (gym, etc), so the carpark was absolutely rammed; there is another for the athletics track, but getting there after you've been bounced out of the main carpark is a right faff due to a one-way system. Plus, there was an athletics meet on there yesterday so that carpark was also full. I ended up parking in a nearby residential street (Harcourt Rd), which was unrestricted.
Another thing: if you're following directions with google maps as I was, it takes you to the athletics site off S Hill Rd, the western exit from the roundabout, whereas the entrance to the LS that you need is off the northern exit from that roundabout, Bagshot Rd or the A322. Be aware also that all the brown signs in the area (at least all the ones I saw) refer to "Sports Centre" - there is no mention of a leisure centre.

This is no criticism of the show - just things to be aware of for people travelling.

Thanks daddyman as I forgot to mention the parking (I went round 10 times before I found a parking space). Also today there is a race meet on at the lesiure center today so parking will be tighter today.

I went along yesterday and really enjoyed the show and, of course, after all this time, seeing people and having a natter. Some excellent layouts including the especially impressive South Pelaw and Stella Gill (more on the other channel): South Pelaw and Stella Gill EM

Any quibbles I might have are entirely down to the nature of Bracknell's road system and signage choices (one day, I will learn to stick on the roads on my bike rather than give the cycle path signage the benefit of the doubt. Again. I think I've worked out how I ended up in Fujitsu's car park now...). That's a known known though, or should have been. I did know not to trust the catering, however, so had sorted my supplies in advance (for @Daddyman's benefit the nearest shop is attached to the BP garage on the way towards the town centre, next to a KFC: probably no cheaper, but there's a cash machine). It transpires that there's a parade of shops about 1/4 of a mile away but I would never have found it on the ground.
