1140 Overhaul.

1140 waits outside Crymlyn A Shop after her first overhaul.
The rear lower left lamp iron had broken but fortunately this had been found.
It was possible to solder it back but only with a weak butt joint.
This would soon fail but Baldrick, the Crymlyn A Shop Gofor, came up with another cunning plan.
A lamp was fitted loosely on the repaired lamp iron and superglued via a small packing piece to the cab rear sheet thus protecting the lamp iron.
Time will tell if this has been successful! The cab rear sheet produced by sub contractor Chris Basten of Minerva Engineering can be seen in one of the pictures.

Although the locomotive performed well it was extremely noisy and our Foreman decided to replace the gear box.
It already was powered by a Dragon Models 15/25 motor and the original gearbox, of unknown pedigree, was replaced by a new model supplied by sub contractor Julian Wynn of Taff Vale Models.
Advantage was also taken to remove a few more mm of body work from the firebox front to give the motor a bit more clearance as it sat slightly lower on the new gearbox.

A video of a rather noisy 1140 with the old gearbox can be seen here:
