The Basingstoke MRS is holding another club open day on Saturday 17th September, the details can be found here . In order that we can show most of our layouts with space to breath we "borrow" the adjacent Scout Hut - our home is the "Old" Scout Hut and is about 50 yards from the "New" Scout Hut - so two venues for the price of nothing. Admission is FREE ! Tea and Coffee shall be available. Parking adjacent to the Scout Huts is free.

At this point I am expecting to take along a couple of the baseboards for the 7mm layout, waiting for track at the moment. In addition I shall try to show some work on 7mm Mk.1 coaches.

No, because the baseboards are not complete yet.

Even when the boards are complete we have a quandary.... When this project was started there were Club members who leant towards 0-FS and Peter / I were prepared to accept that as the track standard so as encourage 7mm modelling. Most of those who expressed interest have left the club and the current situation is that majority of 7mm modellers use S7 standards.

I managed to get to the open day today and I can thoroughly recommend a visit to the next event
Mr Dog Star was a great host and showed us his progress on his station layout and great work on his Easybuild MK 1s.
After months of sitting in the workshop building locos, it was nice to see some (excellent) working layouts

As well as Richard our Open Day was blessed with another 7mm modeller... Chris (@ChrisBr) who has seen the light and adopted the true path. Two 7mm-ers and two WT-ers in one afternoon - I had to have a big (broad gauge) cup of tea and put on the sun glasses with all of the excitement.

No, no, no... yes, all of you are correct, the Old Man has got the date wrong.

Our Open day is Saturday 21st October 2017. Now for a club that majors, apparently, in 4mm scale layouts this open day offers something unusual - two 2mmFS layouts. The Club is building Camford as a mid-1990s version of the (L)SWR main line in the Yeovil area and one of that team, Ian Morgan, is bringing his model of Freshwater (Isle of Wight).

Still dreadful planning as that is the date of the Uckfield Show and the official "first" show for Arun Quay. Quick plug for our exhibition in March 2019 when Gordon and Maggie are bringing the layout...

Of possible interest for those who model to 2mmFS standards, news about Camford.

After the success of presenting the first two scenic boards at our 2017 exhibition in March the gang has been beavering away with the next part of the plan... an eight feet extension which takes the route from the "junction" to further west, as far as the end of the platforms / yard. Baseboards have been built, dowels and bolts fitted, formation and ballast shoulder put down and last night the first 15" of track on the up / down main lines.

Our intention is to have trains running over the sixteen feet length of the four boards. We shall see.

I don't model in 2fs but I certainly do note what you guys get up to and I find it very innovative. I only wish this was not so far away from me, sorry.

Just days to go and shall the 2mm FS achieve their personal challenge of adding an eight feet extension to the current diesel / DMU depot scene? You are going to have to come and see for yourself... other layouts on the day are likely to be:-

* Ropley in the preservation era, 4mm;
* Lulworth in the 1950s/60s, 4mm;
* Beggerwood Lane BR(S) late 1960s, 4mm;

*Freshwater (IoW), steam although diesel has been known to appear, 2mm FS
* Cramford, circa 1995.

I shall probably be doing something in 7mm, might be PO wagons, might be TTA wagons, might be drinking tea and hosting as required.

Dave, the Lightmoor wagon was made by and belongs to Ian... said wagon is currently residing in the Oakley wagon repair yard awaiting attention to the sheeting.

A Slater's kit of some vintage, the sides have "warped" inwards. I shall make a block to hold the sides apart at slightly greater than original separation and apply, locally, some warm air to reduce temporarily the stiffness / rigidity of the plastic. I hope that after cooling the sides are straight... might even make the block slightly wider than required so as to replicate sides which have bower with age.
