A different approach was necessary for the water tower, so a large hole was cut and the embankment kept back with a stone wall. Chipping were laid down and will be weathered later on...

More grasswork added today. Static grass was glued around the coal platform to fill gaps in the vinyl. It will more closely match the backscene when the vinyl grass is completely covered...


From this end of the layout, there doesn't seem much grass...


I'll concentrate on the station end tomorrow, which is mostly fencing and drystone walls...

The coaling stage was removed this morning. It stuck out like a sore thumb in the distance and ruined the illusion of distance...


All the basic groundwork for scenery was completed this morning as well. The low embankment opposite the station platform is really a safety feature with the layout being wide at this point and close by the shed door. It was cut short to enable low-level photography...

Could the coal stage not be much closer to the water tower?

Hopefully preserve the openness and space, but still have the feature, and interest it generates?

Funnily enough, it was closer to the water tower before I started on the scenery. It would only have encouraged the fireman to clean his fire and chuck the contents of the ashpan trackside...

The road outside the gate is painted on. A road widening scheme is planned along with a fence on the other side of the road!


The weighbridge and coal office are against the backscene now instead of behind the bufferstops as on the previous Llanfair. Still lots to do...

A few comparison shots from today. A hedge was painted on the backscene on the other side of the road by the gate. Static grass was completed at this end of the layout today showing how well it matches the backscene...



As before, a Hornby stone wall was but at the back of the goods yard...


Static grass around the cattle dock shows the difference in green. The raised mound on the platform has yet to be tackled

Llanfair has been built so often that I don't have to think.

This small alteration took all day. I decided to make an end-loading platform behind the waiting rooms. A solid block of shaped wood was screwed in position and covered with stone chippings and of course edging slabs.. It will be handy for cars and agricultural equipment etc
