Abandoned Railways from Above

Osgood

Western Thunderer
This coming Saturday, 28/09, covers Oxford to Cambridge, not entirely abandoned!
Spoiler (or maybe not):
I was tracing the route of this in July on that well-known satellite mapping site - seeing what remained, looking at the new route at the Cambridge end, what was involved in reopening it and how far they've got - and there is plenty of evidence to suggest the reason enough of it remained open for long enough to form the basis of a revised passenger route was the backfilling of old mineral workings with London refuse delivered by rail.
You can even see the transhipment cranes for transferring the (ISO?) refuse containers from rail wagons to adapted artic dumptrucks - even some of the old dumptrucks parked up.
