Another Hello from West Sussex.

Hi everyone - I've had an interest in live steam 16mm narrow gauge railways for some time now, but I have recently developed more of an interest in standard gauge trains.

I started off by getting a second-hand live steam Black 5, which is a beautiful model and it looks just great in my display case, but there is just one small problem - it doesn't work!

So I thought I might get some help and advice here as well as being able to contribute in some way.

Anyway - more of that later in the approprate section - cheers for now! ....

Welcome - I hope you find it useful.

Photo's of the Black 5 would be interesting - what scale/gauge is it? What doesn't work?

Hi folks - and many thanks for the welcome!
Welcome John

Picture are our currency on here :))

Yes, I realise that - in fact it was the quality of the pictures on this site that was one of the things that drew me here. Unfortunately I have to admit that I'm more atuned to the steam age than the silicon age - so I'm having to master the business of posting pics .... :(

Hi Adrian - see my quote above - and It's 1/32 - gauge one.

There are several things that don't work like the level and pressure gauges, but the real problem is with the burner - the flame is very unstable - it either wants to stay in the smoke box or jump back to the poker and extinguish itself.

I think the core of the problem lies either with the balance of pressure drops across the gas regulator valve, the jet and the burner respectively - or with the design of the burner itself.

There's no motor in it.!!! :D :)) :))

 sorry, got coat....

oh & welcome to the Madhouse, John. :)

Well at least when the smoke (steam) comes out of my chimny - it's REAL!! ....
