Western Thunderer
Hi all,
I've finally plucked up the courage to introduce myself to the masses on WT!
I have been following the forum for a number of years but have only recently joined, I am a long-time modeller but, unfortunately, mainly of the armchair variety in recent years. Due to a combination of lack of time, money and space and spells of working away from home I haven't made much recent progress at all! Anyway, a change in personal circumstances mean that I have at least conquered one of the above hindrances and I would like to get myself back to doing some active modelling.
In terms of interest I am a bit of a 'scatter-gun'... I suppose my interests are mainly 4mm scale, both standard and narrow gauge, but I have a latent desire to dabble in N gauge and, in an ideal world would love to dip my toes into 7mm scale! One day maybe...
The track record isn't great to be honest, I have started quite a number of small minimum space type layouts over the past few years but not taken any to conclusion. Loss of interest, lack of time and frustration with my progress are the reasons I suppose, but are poor excuses. In fact, the only layout I have ever finished was a 009 narrow gauge shunting layout which I exhibited widely in the North East (and beyond) almost a decade ago now (where does time go!!).
In terms of real interests... it is mainly the North Eastern railway area, from the 1950s to the present day in the main, but I also have a liking for narrow gauge. However, I do fit in with the Western theme a little as my uncle was a 7mm scale GWR modeller for a long time and I helped exhibit his club layout on a number of occasions (Fossebridge by the Shipley MRC in case anyone recalls it). He has since moved on to German O Gauge but, because of this exposure at a young age, I am still a big fan of a good old pannier tank. I find myself drawn to 7mm scale more and more as the years go on and, despite my North East roots, I would secretly love a pannier to play with one day!
Anyway, I have no firm plans at the moment but I want to get back to active modelling, drag myself out of this armchair and take as much inspiration from this forum as possible! Hopefully I will make some progress in time but I need to focus on some goals and objectives and, in the meantime I can soak up the fantastic modelling on display here
Enough of the rambling from me but thanks all for posting your wonderful work!

Oh, an PS, my favourite loco is the good old Ruston 48ds... again something that will hopefully help me to fit in around here!
