Any interest on here in German outline?

Hi all,
Unfortunately I didn't get around to writing much or posting anything since I joined this site some 2 and 1/2 years ago! Sorry about that, I have a tendency to go all out on one subject then jump onto something else for a while, hence why I've shelved my diesel hydraulic ambitions not to mention many other interests.
My reason for posting is as the title, would members on here be interested if I posted about my German modelling, travelling, prototype etc? I don't want to offend anyone by discussing such matters on here, especially if there is no interest!
Cheers,
John E.

Welcome

I'd love to see German modelling, that'd go in area 51 which covers everything non GWR really, travelling and prototype would probably go in talk.

What hydraulic ambitions did you have? V60, V100, V160 or V200 and what scale, I'd love one of those Marklin V200s in Gauge 1, missed one at a snip at Warely a few years back :( and it was turquoise and cream too :(:(

Hello John,

WT members appreciate pretty much evrything on here especially with lots of pictures. I was stationed in Germany for a few years quite a long time ago and travelled on their network many times so have always had an appreciation for their stuff,

Hi again guys,
I'm heartened by the fact that you guys have shown an interest in what I'm up to so here are some pic's from my most recent visit to Germany, from the weekend of the Cologne (Köln) exhibition 23-26th November 2012. Already so long ago!
P1070294.jpg
Anyone know where this or what this is?
That's right - it's the 'Dom' or Cologne cathedral taken from next to the railway bridge! Note the view through the mesh fence is now almost completely obliterated due to all the tourists(?) attaching thousands & thousands of padlocks of every variety onto the mesh!
You can still get some decent shots though!
P1070299.jpg
A class 101 leaving Köln with an InterCity service!
At this time, quite early on a Sunday morning, there was still plenty of traffic about. Unfortunately we were on our way to our second day at the exhibition so didn't hang about!
I guess I'll put some exhibition pic's on later - if there's interest?
Later, we went to the smaller Köln station o/s the Messe itself.
P1070648.jpg
Aah! An ICE-T (tilt) approaching - this was a double unit so very impressive indeed, I love 'em!

P1070657.jpg
As you can see by the red tail lights, this is the rear of the above train.
Spotting feature of an ICE-T is the line of the windows that comes to more of a point on the driving unit, as well as different bogies and different (bulgy) bodywork at the bottom of the bodyshell.
P1070665.jpg
Here comes our train, double deck driving coach leading.

We shortly arrived at Linz (am Rhine)
P1070752-1.jpg
I quickly had to snatch a shot of this lovely little railbus before it disappeared from view!

P1070758-1.jpg
Now back for a detailed shot of 'my' little 143 - lovely!

P1070778-1.jpg
Rather quickly, a class (152, I think!) tore past on a steel train composed of bogie flats, opens and sliding roof vans.

P1070790-1.jpg
Only a few minutes later, this class 185 shot through with a tank train, chasing after our double deck coaches.

P1070795.jpg
Right at the limit of my camera's zoom capability was this little collection of 'classic' stock, all apparently in working order.

P1070827.jpg
How German is that?!
Mid afternoon and my friend and I felt peckish so walked the short distance into Linz village and found a pleasant cafe (not this one!) and sat down to coffee and cakes, extremely nice!!!

P1070842.jpg
Back at the station, the day is losing it's light and this was moving fast so sorry about the blurring but this is the kind of action that really gets me going about German trains, corr!!

P1070847.jpg
Not just German trains either - here is a Swiss one!!!

P1070857.jpg
The little railbus came back, hoorah!
Turns out, it was on a shuttle service to Kalenborn - up a very steep branch. It was only about €7 return so we thought, let's give it a go!

P1070865.jpg
The drivers control desk, normally when not in use, the driver will remove all hand controls and close the (roller shutter type) desk, he hadn't done this when I got this shot!
Last one, I'm afraid! (hurrah!) Oops! Can't post more than 15 pic's!
Before I go, I simply must add a bit of video, not mine (I wish!) but I feel it captures yet more of what German railways are all about!
Cheers/Pröst!
John Edge.

Hi John,

I had better admit that I do have a teensy-weensy interest in German Railways but SWMBO has dictated that I can only have one railway at a time so I am now limited* to BR(S)

Hi John

Errrrm, yes. DRG Ep. II and DB Ep, III t0 V. Preferably electrics:) .

Most of my photos are from the 1990's just after the wall came down, I'll post some in the gallery. I did snap this in Köln after getting off this train earlier. Didn't know Märklin made the 1:1 version:) !!!!

Thanks Mick!
I was in such a hurry to post a few prototype pictures, I forgot what you said about putting them in 'talk', sorry!
Anyway, the hydraulic ambitions I was referring to, were actually my British hydraulics! In P4! I'll discuss them elsewhere, presently!
As to my German hydraulics, well in H0, I've got most of 'em! V36, V60, V65, V80, V100, V160, V200 & V300 - just missing a V320 (it's a bit expensive, from Brawa!).
I too, have had a flirtation with 0 scale, curtesy of Berd Lenz but I had to choose between the two scale and the larger one lost out (sad!).
Pröst!

John, well as luck would have it, I do happen to have the V320, father picked it up at a car boot sale years ago for £40, fairly sure its the Brawa, think it's near the top of the 4mm box of stuff I still have left, personal items of value and presents sort of stuff that'll never get sold, so can check tonight. Never run it but it looks a beast thats for sure. Also have the Roco V90 or is it V90 and at some point am considering scratch building one in 7mm but may just end up buying one when and if they ever become available at affordable prices LOL, same for a V200.1, but that's one anorak I keep locked away for a very rainy day  too much to do already ;) To be fair I may just opt like the Class 40 to go big size and build them in gauge 3 or something as static models and not as runners.

Dont worry about the forums, it's only where I would have stick it, the admins will move it if they feel fit but it's pretty relaxed around here as you'll soon find out, so, here is as good a place as any LOL

I'll confess now that I have more than a passing interest in both German NG and SG lines.
A couple of trips to Germany for work which included a journey of around 40 minutes commuting into Frankfurt did nothing to stall the interest and I enjoyed seeing the wide range of locos and stock at the various yards on the journey.
The first time I went we caught a local train which was a couple of coaches hauled by a diesel loco - I was impressed. The final leg into the main Frankfurt station was also interesting seeing the lines of locos outside awaiting their next duty with plenty of class 218 hydraulics on show.
