My Formative control years were in the Area ops control on a floor in the PSB. Only minor claim to fame was on a hot day in August finding water pouring into the interlocking room. As a result signalling could not be relied upon job stopped for several hours, got on evening news joke story of course. Above the signalling floor is a large water tank that is the firetank header for the station, so the building as grade 2 listed is not going to come down soon. Cause of flood was an ex pigeon who had become halved and one end jammed supply ball cock and its rear end was enough to completely block the overflow, this happened as a plumber had been employed to look at tank ready for a legionnaires test. All a big mess really!! Box was also home to the BR Birmingham travel call centre- so news could be really hot of the press by shouting down the stairs- or up the stairs of course!
