I really admire your backscene, Alan, which helps set the scene.

Perhaps I’m just old-school, but I much prefer the traditional painted variety (when it’s painted as well as this) to the present trend of using photos for the purpose, which I feel draws the eye away from the model. It’s as though the model and the backscene are almost at loggerheads. Masking a photo with a light spray of a light colour helps by reducing its ‘contrast’, but I still feel many elements contained in these photos simply don’t blend with the scene afore it. Sorry but just my take.

Finally, Alan, I like the subtle sky of your backscene.

I’ve tried with watercolour using Barry Norman’s book as a guide, but it really didn't pass muster I’m afraid.

I’m probably better settling for a single pastel coloured background; perhaps even none at all which I saw on a recent small exhibition layout.

Time moves on and its in now 1966 inthe forest and Steam went in Dec '65

Class 14 have replaced our beloved panniers and here is D9502 at the sidings ready to pick up some ballast wagons.




To the wonder of the local work force.

D9502 leaving to trundle back to Blackney, reverse and then on to the big wide world.

It's several weeks since we saw D9502 leave the Sidings, but now the photos are back from the developers we see her approaching Blackney over the ungated crossing and arriving in Blackney and preparing to run round her train.

Alan I do like the "top deck of the bus" viewpoint. @simond used the phrase in reply to one of my posts, and it gives the impression the photographer wanted the best viewpoint.
