Bodging the LNER on a limited budget .

Hello all ,

And wellcome to my attempt at bodging an Lner fleet for as little as possible but also whilst trying to detail as much as i can .

now i know i could buy all new A4s and teak stock and the older items are wrong etc but they are ok with some work i feel and are cheaper etc ,
plus i find they can be repaired much easier than the newer stock and the fact that my dad was a hornby service and repairs guy for the last 15 years of the last century , so he knows what he is doing on it all !

so to start of here is my exset flying scotsman , now as a wartime black A10 Sir Visto , still awaiting name plates and cylinders so i can add a slightly newer chassis under it , this chassis is going under a A4 .

Also here is the side of an old hornby teak that ive attempted to improve the finish on .

There's a lot to like about the philosophy and practice of model making on a budget. One of my pet peeves is the clamour for new versions of already acceptable models just to get dcc control over the glow of the fireman's cigarette or the right type of fixing (weld, rivet or bolt) on the lamp irons, particularly when you know/suspect that the layout it'll run on will be, frankly, a bit sh!t. Taking older models and dolling them up a bit brings a lovely individuality to them; they have life and character lacking in the out of the box model.

i agree completely Neil, to me as long as it looks right from 2ft away i am happy to overlook a few mm's and as long as they run well on a duette or gaugemaster handheld thats good enough for me .

well today has seen me grab the bits to make another green A4, soon to be come osprey , add my original flying Scotsman corridor tender with a added streamline cover on the top and osprey is born . with the tender and loco body off this early Scotsman to be either kept as is or detailed and renamed etc. plus my B17 has been placed on its chassis for a trial fit . 280654461_7753266611357874_2606292044174383030_n.jpg

well a few more bits from the workbench ,

The K's 04 is now numbered and lettered , being numbered up as one sent to the great eastern to haul coal trains , just needs a vac pipe and a set of three links adding then weathering . i do think it looks a slightly bit better than it did when i got my hands on it .

Plus the Scotsmann has received its full lining now apart from the wheels , but they will be replaced for someting a little finer .

Then ive been attacking some grafar coaches with the paints and washes , need to repair and repaint the roofs and fit some new glazing .
Also painted the seats too. plus i plan on re-lettering them with correct style LNER numbering etc .

Two A4s in shop ,

blue one to be completed but made using my train set Scotsman chassis and a GBL mallard body tender is a spare as mallards went onto my A1 .

Merlin has been remembered and had the front end painted and the first boilerband lined but you can’t see it lol , will be lined out fully when I order some more .
sorry for the constant posts , i work to odd times so i am more productive in the week mostly .
