Hi all,

had an email from Shawn Kay last night with the test build photos of his forthcoming Inspection Saloon - the Diag 1/552.

delivery was hoped for Kettering, but delays with the etches and with some castings, has put this back, but hopefully will be available by Halifax. Pricing is likely to be in line with the rest of the Mk1 range, with the furniture and inside fittings, hopefully including the heater vents** for the first 'conversion' being and 'add-on' pack.

cheers

Mike

** these heater vents were also used on many other Departmental vehicles and will be available as a separate item.

Interesting piece of styrene between the roof and the vehicle end... Is this the recommended way of fixing the error in all the Easybuild Mk1s (excuse me if I'm ignorant of the reason it was there in the first place)...

Hi Mike,

Looks like it's taking shape nicely. Did Shawn mention if he's left off the window frames on the end or just hasn't fitted them yet?

Cheers

Tom

Hi Bob,

I do say in the first line of the OP that this is the TEST build - so perhaps an error had crept in when marking out the ends and these are purely a packing pieces to 'complete' the build.

Hi Tom,

not sure, I have always looked on these as rubber grommets as opposed to an actual frame. They may be dealt with on the glazing -I'll check with Shawn and report back.

If there are any other observations, please let me know and I'll pass them on to Shawn

cheers

I have had a reply from Shawn, the styrene is an extension piece to create the overhang - the same method as with their suburban stock. The window frame is dealt with via an etch overlay - still awaited. Resin curtains - open and closed will also be included in the 'fittings' pack.

Any further news will be posted - as and when received.

cheers

Hi Mike,

That's good news then:)

Two points:
1) The heater vents were fitted pretty early on as I understand it. Will the opening be on the coach sides or is that something we'll have to measure up and cut?
2) The windows are the type which only had a frame around the main window - not the 4 small paint above. Anyway the etch could be amended to reflect that, with little fold down tags to stick the uprights to the inside of the window aperture?

Cheers

Hi Tom,

item 1) the kits will be as built, so a bit of cut & carve will be necessary - full size its 18"x12" scale therefore 10.5mmx7mm

item 2) I would imagine that they will be the standard Easybuild window etch.

Shawn will be at Kettering, with the test build, so hopefully, all questions should beanswered there and then any necessary adjustments made before the kit is released.

cheers

Mike
