Prototype DB around Heilbronn and the Neckar - 1983 (b&w)

In 1983 I spent a holiday in the Neckar Valley region and having a regional rail ticket did a bit of travelling around. I had mainly monotone film at the time and thought this group of pictures may be of interest. Some have been published earlier, but this selection has been grouped including some of them so please forgive any duplication.

This next sub-group shows on the first two various wagons at Neckarelz. Note what appears to be a modified former tender near to the end of the line.
The third picture was taken from my train as we passed the preservation site at Darmstadt-Kranichstein . The class 24 on record as being at the DME there is 24 009, so I assume that this is that loco.

That's the lot for now. Thanks for looking and your kind tolerance of these less than first class efforts. My report card says "Must try harder......."

Hi Roger, great pictures from the region where I live.
The short 8-wheeled wagon is for gauging weigh bridges.
I love to see the two chaps with their back packs. These were the happy Interrail days.

Michael,

Thank you for your kind remarks and particularly the information about the eight-wheeled wagon. I had remained somewhat puzzled by its true purpose until your explanation arrived. It is one of my regrets that although I visited Germany many times afterwards, I was never able to return to the Neckar region. Now I find age and ill-health prevent further such adventures - heigh-ho!

Kind regards

Roger

I sincerely wish I’d visited Prague railway station and photographed the experience for you last year, Roger.

However as you know, I was seriously under the weather at the time and couldn’t even muster the energy to get off the tour bus.
