Designing For Laser Cutting

Have you thought about loco nameplates? If you have or can, then you have a firm order waiting.
Good question. I have done some letters for Rob and whilst they are ok 6mm mdf is pushing to the edge of laser cutting simply because of the charring. However it is possible to achieve a result with a cnc router, but that means contracting the work and the cost goes up vertically.
The alternative is to cut in clear cast 6mm acrylic which is a much easier task

After a really hectic few weeks getting jobs out of the door I found time this afternoon to make the mouldings for the bank, basically strips of plasticard in the chopper ;) once they have set hard tomorrow I can take the edges off with a sanding stick.

The ballustrade is the final hurdle, not quite sure what to do yet, although the first thing that springs to mind is 3d printing, there is probably a more economical way.

Also some signs in the making for the workshop, some more glue and blue acrylic for the arrow should arrive tomorrow or Wednesday

I think the balustrade problem is solved, I can cut the bottom part off and although its probably not to scale it should look the part

After a bit of a break, and clearing work backlog i have found some time to get back to the bank. The last major hurdle being the balustrade, so i thought a mock up would be in order, I'm not too sure on the height but I calculated it a being about 4ft

and this is what i have come up with.......

My gut feeling is to knock off a scale foot as I have compressed other elements and the roof is lower due to the smaller footprint of the building.

Cynric a question can this acrylic stuff be use long term outside as I want platforms and concrete edge stone supports for Dudley port a laS8300205.JPG

My main concerns are UV light and durability, no good building the station if it ain't going to last.

The perspex is guaranteed for 10 years. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't last, its not soft like plasticard.
