I've resisted Heljan so far, but that looks a cracker. Are they going to be available without numbers & names?
Yes but only from Tower I'm afraid which is quite annoying. The rest of us can only supply the numbered variants which shouldn't be too much of an issue to remove.
I have asked heljan if they could supply the next models without numbers for all retailers

Heljan wagons how can they justify nearly £100 for a dogfish, or £75 if you get 6?

Er. what is the difference between a 42 and a 43, to me they all look the same.
It's a bit like saying that all G.W.R. 4-6-0s look the same.

This is a real question, as I can't see how to tell them apart.

Shed code plate bracket on the buffer beam, different grill arrangement on roof and boiler ports, Hymek style marker lights, the major ones are for the original build, Oh if you want Zulu then a nice resin casting for the cab roof to house the air horns.
I'd like to see a Maroon one but with small yellow ends !!

Steve, I think Zulu's roof fitting is a cab vent, not for horns, can't check....as you have my books now LOL ;)

The primary difference, apart from all that Steve mention's, between the 42 and 43 is internal. Those built at Swindon being Class 42 with Maybach engines and Mekydro transmissions and those built by NBL, which are fitted with MAN engines and Voith transmissions being Class 43.

Strangely the Class 43 are the lower powered ones by 70HP but being as the higher power ones were built first they took the Class 42 bracket, when the NBL batch arrived later they should technically have gone to Class 41 but that was already taken by the original Warships so they were moved out of position to Class 43. On the road there was no distinction between the power classes so it was only a paperwork issue.

I have only three diesels on my must have list, Deltic, Class 40 and Warship, the Heljan looks very nice but at that price I think I'd rather go for a Fred Phipps one or wait for the JLTRT one if and when they get round to it.

The roof fan hatches and grilles differ between the two classes as well. As we seem to spend most of our time looking at the roofs of our models this would seem to be the one area that needs most attention!

Pete Harvey is working on a series of etches and castings to allow conversion to both the 43 & to the original build with headcode discs and triple reporting frame.

that bloke has a problem with his camera all the locomotives are green he needs to go and get that sorted as any officiado knows locomotives only ever appeared in Blue

Here it is a nice coat of blue. One little boo-boo on my part is choosing D866 as I have since found out that that last little batch of Swindon built Warships had the other style of boiler exhaust/panel. Oh well something to change later when we get a 43 conversion pack sorted.
One thing that has to be sorted is the slight overhang of the body to the valence fit where the screws go in which look like a ripple in the body.warship8.jpg warship5.jpg warship6.jpg warship7.jpg

I just loved the Warships!! When I think back to the, Westerns Warships and Hymecks roaring out of Sonning cutting....oh and also the 'Blue Pullman' It makes me understand how the guys felt when their steam locos were scrapped.:(
