I think a Manning Wardle would be nice, have to be an 0-4-0 to go round my corners.

If youd rather an archaic Neilson for motive power, Ive got one designed and build tested, as seen on my workbench thread. It gets around 4.5' radius with no bufferlock risk.
A manning wardle would be nice as well. They have a specific charm to them with the tank and handrail designs.

So there’s another candidate, thanks Trevor.
When you look, there are lots of nice 4 wheel locos that would fit the bill.
But it becomes more about what bits are available, specifically wheels to start with.

Well if you want accurate, Mark Wood makes proper castings. If you want easy, Slaters 3'6 wheels work too for my Neilson.
If you do decide on trying it, just send me a message requesting the 2D cad drawings and I can give a recommendatiom for a lasercutter in the UK.

That reminds me, I do need to write up some proper assembly instructions. A job for tomorrow along with some quick CAD for Jon.

I did find some little clamps with red plastic ends but, they weren't as strong as the ones that I bought some years ago. Next time, I'll have to buy them in the flesh, so to speak.

That bottom wagon is terribly loaded. Overloaded, not tied down, and will foul the loading gauge!

Your stack is quite impressive.
Any reason a couple have different springs?

Just happened to have them in stock at the time, I may change them, but I have 3 more wagons in the pipeline, more springs, W irons, and axleboxes on the shopping list.

I have been adding a few detailing items to the Mid Wales Brake with a view to painting - when I can decide what colour.
At the moment thoughts are turning to green with red ends ?


When my wife queries why I need more clamps, well it's now.



The framework fits into the top of the body very snugly, it'll be interesting to see if it still does when the glue dries.

One question, if I may. Would it not be easier to paint the van, and the strapping, before gluing the strapping on?

I hate painting to an edge, and presuming others do too, it seems to be an ideal way of avoiding that altogether, although weathering would go on after assembly, and blend the two together.

That is the very reason that I don't paint the strapping on any of my stock. I know that, in some case, I should but, I just can't bring myself to do it as I know that I'll make a mess.

You’re right Simon, the strapping on the van is cut in black cardboard, and I found on some of the G1 stock from the same source, it was prone to de-laminating if handled too much.
On the ballast wagons I’ve cast the strapping in black resin, but I shall give them a waft over with a dark grey before fixing.
I shall have to persevere with the brake.

Had a bit of a squirt round with the rattle cans, need to touch the running gear with some dark grey, add some lamp irons and a few other details and finish the roof with a chimney.
And do a bit of weathering.


I made the executive decision not to pick out the ironwork. Trawling through my wagon books, and I've got them all ( actually I'm just organising a mortgage for LNWR wagons vol 3 ) I can't find a general trend at all for painting the ironwork anything other than body colour.
Bearing in mind that most of the rolling stock in my miniature world will have been purchased second-hand from the larger companies, and due to the penny pinching nature of light railways/industrial operations, would probably not be painted to impress.

Well for picked out ironwork, the L&Y had a practice for it at some point, though that was due to their unpainted livery which still required ironwork coated.
Not sure about other companies

White handrails, and some Slaters G3 lamp irons pinched out of the Midland Brake I've not started yet, and very nice they are.

A bit more progress on the ballast wagons, cast some more ironwork resins. Getting closer to squirting some paint on them, still cant decide what colour - bleached out red oxide would give me pink wagons which I can't get excited about.


Any ideas ?
