Hi all,

Looked quite nice over here so I thought I'd join in. My modelling interests are mainly centred on the South Wales main line in the mid sixties, particularly the freight side of things. I model in P4, enjoy dabbling with etching and 3d printing along with the occasional resin casting. Some of the results of this can be found on the Rumney Models website. No layout currently as I live in a 1 bed flat in Bristol but I have a nice 4' x 2' workbench!

I have built a few locos including some fully sprung diesels:

But my real railway passion is for wagons, especially those with complicated vacuum brakegear:

and milk tanks:

Welcome Justin!

I hope you post some build threads of your nicely complicated wagon brakes. It's the kind of thing we thrive on!

Justin,
4 x 2 ? That will be enough space for a model of Marshfield for your lovely milk tanker ! Stick a 95er on the tripper and a Western to go thundering past from Canton, sorted !

Welcome WT Justin. :)

If you ever feel the urge to enlarge your stuff to 7mm and perhaps 1/32" scale, I'm sure you'd get a lot of wallets on here twitching!

Well I've got a Western, four of those milk tanks to different diagrams and a 95er... so that's a start. :)

A Heljan model with a sprung brass sandwich chassis along the same lines as Brassmasters Ivatt 4MT chassis and a reworked cab. I've started a couple of small layouts but they've always stalled because they were never really quite what I wanted to do. As lovely as Marhsfield is what I really want is a scaled down version of Long Dyke or Pengam with lots of sidings for all the wagons to be sorted and then sent on their way again. I don't think I need a huge amount of space to do the main bit of my grand plan just more than I have at the moment!

I currently do a few items in 7mm: United Dairies GWR/SR milk tank platforms and I've just finished packing up some proper United Dairies and Unigate milk tank plates. I haven't publicised these yet but will do so over the weekend and they are up on the 7mm section of my website. I would like to have a go at doing some underframes in 7mm but they're a reasonable amount of work as I don't like simply scaling up artwork. The 7mm stuff would need reworking to take account of metal thicknesses and holes resized. I've got a Slaters BR Shocvan and a Parkside 16T mineral knocking aorund so it is a definate possibility! I've done a few in S scale which is much easier as the metal thicknesses work nicely between the scales so it's just holes that need to be adjusted.

Hello Justin, good to see your work here - especially the D95xx. Mine really needs some proper rods at the very least.

Hi Adam. I think I used Bill Bedford rods on this though the forthcoming Brassmasters ones might be a better bet. Moving the rainstrip on the cab and painting it a better colour makes such a difference. The green Heljan used on the cabs is nowhere near.

Thanks Tim.

... and a nice Pannier in the background.
Well spotted! I dug it out last night to show a freind of mine how I'd done the pickups which is why it is lurking around on my workbench. Here's a better look:

A currently unaltered Bachmann body and High Level chassis. The chassis was built using Exactoscale coil springs in place of the compensation included in the kit. I'll look at tarting up what is a pretty good body at some point and will definately do some new steps for it. Oh and paint the chassis!

Long Dyke or Pengam ? Thumbs up from a former Pengam Bridge boy ! Thinking back to the late 70s we saw a wonderful collection of wagon types at those locations. I must buy a time machine and take my digital camera on my journey.

Wouldn't a time machine be wonderful. To go back, just for a day with a digital camera and photograph the Westerns, Hymeks, Halls and Granges, the wagons in the sidings and infrastructure that isn't there anymore. When you've got hold of one drop me a line! :)

Thanks Steve!
