Hi Simon,

Well done! I had hoped to be there as well, but an unplanned trip straight down the stairs has prevented it. I was there for the 90th and 95th when there were about 16,000 Guzzis in the town, I am sure there will be more this time.

Have a great time - and keep out of the way of Moto Guzzi Ercoles, driven by madmen, full of drunk Italians!

Here is a picture of my Monza (which I bought new 40 years ago!) outside the factory at the 95th anniversary.L1000622.JPG

Hi Susie,

thanks for the kind thoughts, and sorry you’re not able to be here. I do hope whatever you’ve done to yourself is soon mended.

they’re talking of 19,000 this year, I have no idea if that’s right or even reasonable, but there are plenty!

there’s no shortage of nutters, either, on two and four wheels. (And, indeed, three…). The “50kph” and “no overtaking” signs are, shall we say, decorative…

I’ll post a few more photos tomorrow.

get well soon!
Simon

I also had motorbikes & one scooter most of the time from 16 until about 1 year ago at just gone 80.
The photo is from 1948 on dad's brand new BSA Bantam 125cc only a short time after the original release. Supplied by Copes of Dudley.
I am in charge, my little brother is pillion.

BSA Bantam 1948.jpg

No crash helmets required in those days.

My first bike was a Vincent. No not a 1000cc V twin but a 50cc firefly clip-on motor on a Raleigh bike.

Regards
Allen

Mandello is crazy with bikes and bikers of (almost) every shape, colour and size - so glad we made the effort!

On my recent run to Mandello I met a very helpful Dutch chap, who has a truly lovely LM1, which he is selling. On his behalf, in case any of the WT crew agree with my view that the LM1 is one of the greatest, and most beautiful, bikes ever made, and want one. Lake Como background not included :)

Moto Guzzi 850 Le Mans 1, 2nd type with plastic black tail light.
Build in 1978, sold in 1982 (old stock at the Guzzi Import company) 3rd owner, 86.400 km’s.
full restauration in 1984 and carefully maintained it since than.
Extra’s are the Lafranconi competition mufflers and oil temparature and pressure gauges in a Veglia cockpit housing on the top plate of the front fork.
Recent full maintenance job, all oils, filters, sparkplugs, braking pads, valve adjustment and 2 new tyres front and back.
Since then covered 2600 km’s, Mandello and back.
Price is discussable, around €13k euro.

Hi Col,

I thought you might bite…

when I say “helpful Dutch chap”, he produced from his tank bag a spare clutch cable, which was precisely what I needed! He obviously travelled better prepared than I.

Inevitably, precisely none of the tools or spares I took were required, but the things I didn’t have…

I fervently hope I never get it with my V2!

what actually got out? It didn’t look like a piston to me - cylindrical but too long? Whole wet liner?
