Hi All,
I have just been introduced to this forum though another member George T who has recently joined Alsager Railway Association. The layout has evolved quite a lot over it's time. Originally the main focus of the layout was the bridge which spent many years on the exhibition circuit. We had a lot of fun exhibiting the layout and various shows over the country. The fiddle yard was covered by a colliery which has been converted into a stand alone layout. We have also exhibited this and have two shows planned for this year.
It was decided that the layout would become a permanent feature at the club and be retired off the exhibition circuit. As a result of this the fiddle yard was scrapped and replaced with a station which is what you see. This is now the main focus of the layout and where our attention is. We have had the layout operating now for some time and scenic work continues, with signals currently being added.
We are fortunate enough to have someone who is handy on cad and has access to a 3d printer and laser cutter, and has speeded up the process of adding buildings to the layout. Currently going though his workshop is a goods shed. There is still a lot to add though and ideals are always being put forward. We are looking at developing an engine shed at one end of the layout and we also have a pair of scenic only boards which need populating with houses.
The next main item though which has taken a leap forward recently is to replace the bridge, although it is a feature everyone likes it makes the operation of the station impractical especially on an open day. The decision has been taken to replace what has become the back of the layout with a fiddle yard. This shall make the operation of the layout a lot easier and create some much needed storage.
We hold open days though the year and our next one is on 10th July.
Many Thanks for reading
