There has bene much said about this loco during its development, but not much said now it is released and available. So here, to stimulate debate, or even just to inform, are a few pictures of my first 56 taken this morning, after a spot of light weathering and sound fitting. I like the model, but what about you?

On the hole I like the look of the 56, but the livery on the blue un-numbered loco is wrong. The yellow should wrap-round the front to be inline with the front of the quarter light. From what i've seen all the other liverys are good.
Heljan have confermed the error and I am waiting before I re-order my one.

I'm still on the fence with this one. from some angles it looks really good and others not so much. I too can't understand how the factory have got the blue on the plain blue one so wrong when they have got the numbered one right, surely it was the same paint masks with one batch just numbered! I have resisted so far, will see what the future holds.

Mine have arrived and I'm very pleased, apart from the paint error on the unnumbered blue one, I think the model is very good.

This is my transrail one, it will be numbered 56115, once you add the hand rails it looks a lot better. I will add the NRN aerial once everything else has been finished, it will only get snapped off if I do it before then.

To add the hand rails I drilled the hole a little larger with a number 66 drill, as they came they were too tight a fit. A tiny bit of super glue fixed them in place.
This is the bag of bits that comes with the large logo one

There are round hand rails and flat handrails, Heljan state that their model is good for 56061 onwards, most of these had flat handrails but a few a mix of flat and round, so do check your number.
I'm not sure what the little yellow squares are for ? Does anyone else know, there is no mention in the instructions.
There are 2 spare buffer beam step and 2 grills that fit just below the body at the very front, do they protect the AWS ?

Here's the large logo one.

This will be 56132 and will need flat handrails

I hope to get round to fitting DCC next week.

Not my scale but it's a nice model of an imposing locomotive. As a train spotter in Carlisle in the 1980's class 56's were exotic and rare visitors, I remember bashing and spotting trips over to Gateshead and the North East where seeing these was the highlight of the trip (that and Peaks on trans-Pennine services). Plain blue was always my favourite livery on these, though I also like large logo blue too.

The yellow squares are to represent the vent grill fitted to some cl56. Iirc they were on the second man side.

to me something is very weird with the roof. It’s like the whole roof is squashed and from certain angles the roof domes look extremely odd.
