Hello! Finally Got Round To Joining In

Hello everyone. Been meaning to join for ages and have finally done the deed. I'm a member of the GOG and usually post on their forum but I thought I'd join you guys as well to share and learn with and from a wider group.

I've been modelling the LNWR since I worked on the S&T in Chester in the 1970s, so a fair while now... First in 00 and since 1991 in 0 gauge finescale. However, like I suspect, a lot of modellers, I like an awful lot of whatever else takes my fancy too. My preference is pre-group because it seems to me that that was the heydey of railways in the UK when they were more cared for and more colourful. (Mind you, today's railways are certainly colourful...).

I only have a small space (an L shaped cellar about 13' by 12') so not the best for 0 but I've connived, using Machiavellian guile (as well as some eye wateringly tight curves and compressed sidings) to shoehorn an urban terminus Crook Street into the space.

My current focus is on loco building so I'll probably post on that subject first - when I work out which part of the forum to do that.

Anyway, I'll post again soon on my currest build.

Cheers

I have watched videos of your most impressive layout. Really wonderful. I would never have guessed it was in so small a space. I have a liking for LNW stuff also!

Hi Allan, really good to see you here. It would be interesting to see some photos of Crook Street to see how it all fits in the space that you have.

Thanks for your replies guys. I did post on Friday and WT promptly crashed, I did wonder whether I'd actually done that - you never know... the power, the power...

Thanks Paul, is that a photo of Mostyn box on your thumbnail?

Hello Allan. Sure is (I wondered if you'd spot that!). It's just a few miles down the coast from me - photo taken one Christmas Eve, just after it'd received a much-needed lick of paint. Cheers.

p.s., are you familiar with the 4mm Mostyn layout?

Yeah, its a superb layout, really captures the Chester and Holyhead feel to it. Modelled right in the period when I worked on the railway. Spent many a happy hour in Rockcliffe Hall signal box, which was the western extent of our district - endless streams of DMUs punctuated by Class 40s on "the Londons", which were mostly Manchester Victoria bound in reality. They still ran "The Club", which was a throwback to LNW days of club carriages for the mill owners of Manchester. However in the 1970s it was merely a superior DMU. (Sorry, not up on my DMUs so I can't say what it was!). The signalmen did say they'd get a "Form 1" (disciplinary) if they stopped it.

Hi Allan,

Welcome to WT and good to see you here. Hopefully you will be starting a thread on your wonderfully atmospheric layout Crook St. Quite how you have squashed it all into the space you have is amazing. I've enjoyed all the videos (more than once!!!) and look forward to each one coming out.

Cheers,

Kevin

Hello Allan,

I love your Crook St layout so so much. I (like many hereabouts) also model LNWR but in a muuuuch smaller scale!

I am excited to see more of your work!
