Hello from a strictly LNER modeller in digital exile

Greetings to all. For those who don't know me, I’ve been an LNER enthusiast and modeller for over 50 years. I know a few others railway modellers who have moved here and apparently been happy, after dissatisfaction elsewhere.
I had previously described and illustrated modelling projects in detail on the “big” railway modelling forum until 2009, when I stopped most of my contributions in protest at the censorship, restriction or eviction of various people who dared to say things that the founder and his clique did not agree with. Over the subsequent 16 years, as “Atlantic 3279”, I have very happily posted detailed coverage of my projects on the “lner.info” model railways forum. Regrettably, since that website’s recent swamping by robot activity, and the resultant introduction of Cloudfare security, I now find it almost impossible to either log-in or submit anything successfully to that forum, no matter what device, browser, location or network is tried. Even a new account exhibits the same problem. Nothing, including discussion with the site’s administrator has provided a solution. I’m not much inclined to resume my previous level of activity on the “big” site even after the departure of its founder, as I’m not impressed by the actions in recent years of its current commercial owners, so here I am. I shall soon try to submit something to the workbench sub-section.

Welcome to WT, but in the interest of balance and because some of us inhabit both places without trouble, I will just quote this from the "About" tab above....
We fully recognize that there are other Model Railway forums and have no qualms about mentioning them directly particularly if you have a link to some good modelling. However this is not the place to bring any grievances or politics from those forums, we're here for the modelling not for having a moan about other forums.

Good to see you on here Graeme.

I wonder what I am doing right, I haven't had any problem posting on the LNER forum so far (touch wood).

Thanks to all for the Welcome. Fear not, there's no more I wish to say on here about the big forum. I could have said more, and deliberately chose not to do so, but to have said less would not have given an honest account of my past presence on forums and my reasons for being here. I actually started before the big forum on the original BRM forum, a lower tech affair where as far as I recall we were all happy, but the operators shut that down. Mention of that reminds me of the early days when that magazine had a cover that appealed to the serious, sober modeller looking for something better than the then usual mag, and it always seemed to include something to inspire readers to develop the ability to build their own locos and rolling stock, in metal, using a hot soldering iron - without dire warnings against the "danger" of such a tool...

Rob, you are lucky, I wish I knew what you are doing right, although I strongly suspect I'm not doing anything wrong in my attempts to log-in to lner.info. Passwords and user names are given correctly. A virus/malware scan on my own PC, deletion of browsing history/cookies/cache, a change of password, a new account, my trial log-ins on other devices in other places, and my daughter's attempts to log-in with my details from another machine, distant location and different network via a different browser have failed to get around the problem. My first request for a new account got no response, as did two requests that my daughter later independently made for an account. Most of the time, things we've tried to submit the site seem to just vanish into a black hole, or get rejected as an "invalid submission". I like the site and I'd like to stay in touch with its members, but what more could I do?

It was a lovely magazine. A real diverse range of subjects and some amazing modelling. On these three issues there diesel modelling, a lovely 3mm scale model of Garsdale, light railways, kit building of various form, garden railways, narrow gauge, layout design - all of it still relevant today. And the emphasis is on doing and making! Not the staff showing you how but all sorts of different authors - very practical.

And the magazine is beautifully presented and designed - not the horribly busy appearance of most magazines these days.
