Hi from Sheffield

Hi folks, been dropping by to read for ages and finally signed up. I've always been impressed with both the modelling and the tone here, hope one day my skills will get somewhere near what I've seen. I'm particularly enjoying reading the Finney builds going on at the moment.

I have a few modelling projects on the go:

n-guage shed with handbuilt track using components from British Finescale - currently on hold until I get around to designing a jig and having it cut.

Connoisseur LowMac kit in S7 - built but needs painting

MMP glass wagon kit in S7 - part built but worried I've stuffed it up, will be asking for advice when I figure out the right forum, also going to take it to my local O gauge group

MMP 08/09 kit - not started yet and think I need one or two more wagons after the glass wagon before my skills are up to attempting it

My interests are mostly LMS and BR ex-LMS, but any big kettle has appeal plus the odd early diesel, probably a legacy of growing up near the KWVR.

Looking forward to talking to you all and showing you some of my attempts at modelling.

All the best,

Tim

Hi Tim and welcome aboard.

Look forward to seeing some of your work and feel free to ask questions - there's plenty of helpful people around these parts.

Not sure if you've seen it already - I've previously posted a few build details for the glass truck.
LMS 12T Glass Truck - MMP Kit | Western Thunder

So if there are any queries we might be able to help. It is a nicely detailed kit but does need a bit of care soldering it together. I wouldn't say it's a beginners kit more medium to advanced level kit. It's a long wheelbase vehicle and when soldering up the main frame there are quite a few long lengths of thin etched strips which can buckle, so extra care is required to keep the frame flat and square when soldering it together.

Regards

Adrian

Thanks for the warm welcome, I do my best to supply as many pics as possible!

Thanks for the link Adrian, I hadn't seen that thread. I've read it through now and it's really helpful. It is indeed the main frames I'm having trouble with, just about to start a build thread with some photos. I think your right about it being a more advanced kit than I expected, at least I should learn a lot from it though...

Hi - glad it was some help. I must have been having brain fade at the time because the few build threads I've done I've started to copy all the pertinent posts to my website - the glass truck being one of them. Nothing new here just a concise cut and paste from the thread.

And that is what sets WT apart from the rest... here you can offer pictures of progress (or lack of)... write about what gives concern... ask for help... and get un-biased, honest, comment and support.

Welcome to the best place on the 'net, just like having your own club in your own workshop (or on your own dining table).

regards, Graham
