Primer time (Halfords Red Primer).



Followed by a rub down with some wet 'n dry paper and lots of water.


Once it's dried out I'm hoping to get some top-coat on this week.

Had a quiet day in, so an ideal opportunity to do some painting. More of Halfords finest + Tamiya acrylics.

The following pictures show where I am now. Artificial light makes the green look a bit lurid!


This is more how it looks.


Still lots of overspray to tidy up and more coats of acrylic before I'm happy with the finish.

A set of 'Hughes & Co' builders plates would be nice, but understandably no-one appears to do 'em.

Once all the painting is done I'll give it a light weathering just to highlight the detail and hide my more obvious mistakes.

I've seen the above name mentioned from time to time, but never investigated further. I've just had a look at their website and it looks promising. Thanks for the heads-up.

Unfortunately Diane Carney not able to do the plates. I tried Narrow Planet as well, but they don't currently have capacity to produce a custom order, which is fair enough.

So, I think I'll have to maybe make some plain plates and hope no-one notices the absence of any lettering.

Would it be possible to draw the artwork yourself, reduce it and print on decal film for application to a plain brass plate?

In theory it's all possible. But, lacking a computer means I'll probably struggle to do this without it looking a bit naff.

I'll keep my options open though.

As I mentioned earlier, I've contacted Diane Carney, but unfortunately they're not able to make them.

A fellow Western Thunderer has however been in touch with me to see if he can make them.

I've just got to build a layout to run it on. I'm currently repurposing a layout/diorama I made some years ago.

Hi Mike , have you tried Railtec . They make a 3D transfer and i have used them on a couple of locos .
