Aside from the Axle issues, the 08 is progressing really well, seems to be going together really quickly, dipite the fact that there are some really small etched parts that the carpet monster keeps on claiming for his own, luckily MMP has produced spares for some of the smaller items on the fret. Reading through the instructions I envisaged that the fitting of the side frames to the running plate was going to be a bit tricky and decided to fit them much earlier than the instructions suggest. The level of detail is stunning. Taken quite a few pictures but only one seems to have come out properly due to not using flash and Winter daylight much reduced at 15:30 yesterday. Pictures are always cruel to your level of cleaing up, I wounder how they get things so surgicaly clean on the Building O gauge online Website. :-[

I've got one to Bulleid-ise (rather than bully), but I need to find some kind soul with an engraver and a vague grasp of the concept of time to do the wheel centre overlays for me.

The other differences (and there are many) I think I can cobble together myself.

This thread is great to show how the kit goes together in its normal form though and from there I shall plan my changes.

I'm fairly sure it's the flux they use - it's the stuff that Simon sells on the website, it's fantastic!  I've got some and it is better than anything else I've used and it's not aggressive either.

I'd heartily recommend it.

Thank you for the kind comments chaps, Pugsley thanks for the tip, but I already use the Flux from the Building O gauge website and rate it very highly, it's much kinder on the lungs than most other stuff. I have now completed all of one side of the engine above runing plate level appart from the cab, and it looks superb, only my scratch brush has fallen appart from all the vigorus cleaing up, so I'm not prepared to post any pictures of my work until I've got a new brush and cleaned it up. :

Thanks David, the works plates provided for Darlington are built 1965 but thats close enough.

New Scratch brush came today, so this is how things are looking so far, bonnet is complete but just resting on for show.

Appologies for lack of updates, but in December my Soldering Iron broke, luckily it was still under guarantee, but the replacement took a long time to come with the Christmas post. However I did not waste my non-soldering time, I just got on with a Slaters brake van to go with the 08, it's almost finished (just awaiting transfers, couplings, glazing, roof fixing on and to finish of the weathering  ???) So as my replacement Soldering iron has arrived, normal service wil be resumed, and i'll get you a picture from the front as requested Ian.

The brake van looks great and will look well with the 08 when finished . Is it sprung and if so which w-iron did you use. Don't worry about the posts, I haven't posted on my thread for months but maybe I should soon. Looking forward to seeing progress on the 08 when your new iron arrives,

I've got a couple of pictures of a J72 for you, I just need to re-size them, and then if you send me your e-mail address I'll forward them on.

The brake van is sprung using Slaters W-irons, I have used these before on a BR Vanwide (that I plan to convert to a VEA) and they worked really well, however on the Brake van the moulded leaf springs push the hornblocks to the bottom of there travel and therefore their's very little travel in the hornblocks, about 0.5 to 1mm, so the springing is mimimal. It has a few MMP bits on it (load clip, Vacuum pipes and builders plate) the rest is as per the kit.
