Ok, it took me a while....I heard that the local dyslexics went to the Maritime Museum. Half of them hated it.

I thought it was Gin!daily doses of Marmite warded off the midges

Reminds me of a sign on the wall behind the cash register at one of my favorite old restaurants in Dallas--The Mecca. It said, "When I die, I want to go peacefully in my sleep, like my grandfather. Not screaming like the passengers in his car".
My late father-in-law served in West Africa during the war. One night he got totally parasitic in the Mess and collapsed onto his bed forgetting all about his mosquito net. Next morning he woke up – not a mark on him. So it's true that a surfeit of alcohol keeps the mozzies away.I find gin goes quite nicely with lots of things. But more so in the summer.
I used to know a family friend who was in West Africa during WW2 as well. He didn't narrow it down to a particular Country, though, and it's many years too late to ask him now.My late father-in-law served in West Africa during the war.
