Larkrail

Hi CME (I don't know your name) as I understand we are supposed to model something different to what we normally do to show there .Is that the case

Current thinking (ha ha) is that the next show will be another Larkrail but moved to Christmas(ish), currently slated for Saturday November 22nd 2014.

I may not (ever) do another Camrail, too much work, moving books, buying bananas etc etc

But then again.......

I thinks that's the Warley Show weekend, so that may restrict your punters and traders whom may attend. I'm happy to provisionally offer Bawdsey http://bawdsey.wordpress.com/, if of interest, but won't be able to make it if the date clashes with Warley.

As someone who has helped/exhibited at most of the Camrails since 1998 or 99 (on the towpath at Brassknocker basin - Brassknockerail anyone!) I shall be campaigning for a retention of the summer date. I was also very much in favour of a return to St Mary's Hall in Bradford on Avon as I think its a cracking venue with loads of parking, close to the station and lots of pubs by the canal but can see the appeal of Larkhall and making it one day and am coming round to the idea of sticking with Larkrail - but in its current slot in the callender.

I was wondering about Warley, maybe I will stick with my third weekend in July slot.

I will check out availability tomorrow....

Twopenn'oth; I quite like the idea of going head to head with Warley, two different shows, different characters, gives a proper choice to the model railway enthusiast. Would hate to see one show dominate the hobby to such an extent that nothing else happens on its chosen weekend.

Whilst to some extent I have some sympathy with this view there is no getting away from the fact that, love it or loath it (and I have a foot in both camps), Warley is an enormous showcase for the hobby. I, and many others, go most years either as an exhibitor or demonstrator. In my case with the layout or on the 2mm Association stand. Specialist societies such as 2mm/P4/S7 etc really have to be there. As a fun day/weekend there is no contest, Camrail/Larkrail wins hands down but I see little point in going head to head with Warley.

I must admit July gets my vote due to my travel arrangements, sitting on the train is fine but having got off at Bath Spa it's a lot nicer to move around in the sun (hopefully), plus there does seem to be quite a few other things on come November, cheers Rob

My vote is for summer. I took Lady Dikitriki along this year, she could wander about in the sun, sit outside at a coffee shop: we had an enjoyable relaxing time, and could play with Simon's trainset well into the evening without searchlights and thermals.

Warley weekend is a bad date for me, but I am only one person. A summer expo in Bath or BOA is like a wonderful Ivo Peters or Dick Riley photo - full of atmosphere and soul. But at the end of the day you have to do what works best.

Couldn't have put it better:thumbs:. Easily the friendliest and most enjoyable show out there and I always look forward to it.
Simon, you know you can count on myself and Gruntfuttock (Rich) for support whether it's Camrail or Larkrail.
Not only for doing a demo (and eventually a layout) but also if you would welcome spreading the burden of putting the thing together (I'm sure I'm not alone offering whatever help we can).

p.s. I'd keep the summer slot too....Bath or Bradford in the sunshine, a beer with friends after the show....lovely job.

Bob:)

Although this year was my first time exhibiting, can I bid to keep the summer date? I've only been to Camrail as a punter but I preferred the Larkrail experience - and I didn't get down to the shop! So that's me barred!

Simon T

PS - Want a small S7 layout or demo?
