The Torcombe branch served the town of Torcombe, The station had a bay platform to serve the even smaller town of Hanford a small fishing village further down the coast. The line was worked by Autotrain often with fish vans on the rear. These trains were known locally as the Hanford shorties!
Twice a day the auto train would work up to the main line junction. On this occasion the 14 was at Newton Abbott for repairs so the train was worked by one of the regular 45’s IMG_1347.png
Heading back down to Torcombe with not a passenger in sight, it’ll have to run round to take the train down to Hanford so will use the main platform.

What a magnificent sight this must have been !
During the mid to late 50’s summer season the relief to the Cornish Riviera train 131 was scheduled to be king hauled. Whilst at Newton abbot the train engine from the Riviera itself train 130 was relieved and replaced by a pair of smaller engines as it ran non stop to Cornwall then the king would be used as pilot to the Relief as far as Plymouth. Sometimes given the tight timings the head board would be left in place.
This was the only time I’m aware of a scheduled train being double headed by Kings.
The train engine is my own loco 6023 and the pilot is King John owned by my fellow dream factory model works modelling partner Rob Haskins built by MD Modelling and painted by Paul Moore

A few shots around St Stephen’s today running a few new locomotives. I’ve had no joy in selling the layout all in so I will now separate into 3 individual parts IMG_2305.jpegIMG_2308.pngIMG_2306.jpeg
This will be the first at 12’ and I’ll be adding a new tunnel mouth scenic break on the right. Remove the GWR signals and framed posters and it could be anywhere.
IMG_2297.jpeg
The Torcombe board will be available as a stand alone diorama 4’ x 3’
I will add a new fascia panel on the part that joins to the main layout. IMG_2304.jpegIMG_2303.pngIMG_2301.pngIMG_2300.pngIMG_2312.pngIMG_2311.png
and finally a going away shot of 6999 heading back to Cardiff. The Holloway tunnel end is under offer.
