Ok,, I have started on the splashers, I marked them out with a pair of dividers and then filed them to shape, still a bit to do but I think that it's getting there. I might just point out that the boiler can and smoke box are not yet fitted together at this point. That won't happen until the chassis is finished. I only have a very basic set of tools ,a few pairs of pliers a cheap soldering iron and a few files and small screw drivers. So everything gets filed to shape.

I see you are opting for the closed splasher version. Very wise as cutting fan slots is a pain to say nothing of the lining!

Ian.
Hi Ian I think that the slotted splashers would have been beyond my skill level. As for the painting,if I can make a good enough job of it I'm hoping to get Warren Hayward to paint it. ( He says hopefully)

Nothing wrong with basic tools. It is the person wielding them that makes them work.
A long while ago I built my first model loco with only a few old files, junior hacksaw, Stanley hand drill with a few drill bits, copper soldering bit heated in the fire and Mothers dressmaking scissors. The later got me into trouble as they weren’t much good after I used them to cut up tinplate from a cocoa tin.

Now John I think you are being very modest in you statement regarding your tools....that locomotive looks beautiful, you have made a lovely model. It must be the Spanish air!!

As for Ian and his Mother's scissors well I still have mine and they are very useful and sharp!

All the best

Julian
