Now John I think you are being very modest in you statement regarding your tools....that locomotive looks beautiful, you have made a lovely model. It must be the Spanish air!!

As for Ian and his Mother's scissors well I still have mine and they are very useful and sharp!

All the best

Julian

No I don’t have the scissors but I do have the Stanley drill, my fathers, but hardly used now, and the Junior hacksaw, which I bought for 1 shilling and 3 pence from Woolworths, used a lot but with new blades. I also have the soldering bolt which was given to me by my grandfather. The last time I used it when I soldered up the tank for my 1/4 scale traction engine.

Ian.

Glad to hear that you splashed out on some new blades Ian otherwise cutting by now would be a very slowww process .

Hi, a little bit of progress on tge Lady, well actually quite a bit has been done. I had noticed a very fine crease in the smokebox wrapper I probably could have filled it with a bit of soldier but I decided to take it off and try to get it out. Disaster, I put a really deep crease in it trying to get it off even though I was being really gentle with it. Also the boiler and firebox came as two pieces and I just could not get a satisfactory joint. A phone call to Nick and he very kindly made a new smokebox wrapper and a one piece boiler and firebox. ( Thank you Nick).
So here it it with the new part's and a sandbox. ( please note that everything is just resting in place and is not sobered together. 20251011_130901.jpg20251011_130906.jpg20251011_130912.jpg

Hi Mike, I got the 9F about 20 years ago,,it's a Jim Harris kit. ( stop laughing at the back row)I he supplied it with most of the rolling and bending done. As I am waiting for some parts for other things so I had a look inside the box and ended up putting the tender together, mainly I wanted to see whether the cab ,firebox, boiler and smokebox would all fit to see if this engine is viable. The joint between the cab and firebox is not good as there is a gap at the top so im not sure what to do about it at the moment. Time will tell I guess. This is a project for the background as I realise that it won't be easy. Other people have made them so let's just wait and see.

Hi John
This is Phil from Hobby Holidays. I have a question. Comments from other would be welcome. When I was researching making a kit for the Lady (which I may still do but only as a basic etched parts kit.) I noticed there is very little clearance with the splashers over the big wheel. My concern was, if you allow the axle to rock, either by suspension or compensation, will it not short to the body. I know you are doing it in S7, but still it must be very tight.

Hi Phil, I have done one of the splashers but I haven't got to the point that you mention. If it happens I will probably put screws in the top of the horn guides to adjust the height.
