More progress today on Love Lanes goods shed.



















Test run for the railway staff cottages, there will be two pairs of semi detached cottages, they are based on the ex GER examples that were/are at Ilford. They will sit on a dead end lane ( Love Lane ? ) which runs parallel to the line opposite the station building.







...and finally antipodean railways fan, John, checking the sausages on the indoor baarby !

The Love Lane crew have been discussing developing the town end of the layout, looking at what we can do to make the scene more urban.
One idea is to place the redundant brick rail bridge from the country end ( there is a planned smaller hump back bridge for that location ) at the town end thus completing the scenic board there before the line curves round to the storage roads.
It seems to fit quite well and it was stood on the end board in mock up mode, the base board will need to be increased in width, re-shaped from triangular to rectangular.



There will be high retaining walls either side between the two bridges, discussions and plans are ongoing for more buildings.

I hope the visitors from the Albury meet to Love Lane enjoyed what we are working to achieve with Love Lane ?

The town starts to expand.

We seem to be working on a number of fronts these so maybe it's time for an update.

First the bay platform first mentioned a while back. The platform face and the flagstone edge are now done. There's still an 'ole where the signal box used to be (that's going to go further down the line). There's no way we will be able to disguise a patch so best to make a feature of it as a section of re-laid tarmac.



Timbers are now laid and stained for the bay road turnout.



There's progress on the railwaymen's cottages which will go along an unmade track opposite the station building. There's a pair plus a terrace of four. They are substantially the same which saved a lot of time on the drawing. First the shells in the rough location they are intended for.

Sets of interiors ready for decoration. I plan to print of A4 self adhesive address labels, both wallpaper and lino / rugs. Front view on the left.



Loads of parts ready for use; windows, doors, chimneys, roof trusses and smaller wall sections.



Also the parts for the outshot at the back of the buildings which housed the scullery, coal hole and W.C. (I fear we will not be able to resist a door swinging open and some interior detailing on the latter).

9F 92017 pulled into Love Lane today rostered on the morning down parcels.




The xp van and brake van will probably be shunted into the bay to be taken onward down the branch by the passenger service as a mixed consist and returned in the evening to be collected by the evening up parcels.

Progress on buildings at Love Lane.

The goods shed has received a coat of white wash on the inside and preparatory mortar mix on the outside.



The pair of semi-detached cottages get closer to completion but still some way to go.




The granary is catching up also. The small foamboard building is being used as a mock-up for an office but will probably take on a different design to this building which is really a mocked up GER weigh bridge office.




Further work is being carried out with work on the bay road and associated point work and groundwork either side of the cutting south of the station. Other work to be finalised is the loco yard with positioning of the bothy, water tower, coal stage and water crane. Other water cranes will be mounted ? at the north end of the down platform and the south end of the up platform.
There are more features to be designed and built but that will be posted in time as it appears on our work benches.

Wednesday working day at Love Lane on Costa Del Pelham...well the sun was shining but it ain't on the coast .

The ground around the cutting has been built up and the staff cottages stood in position for visualization.

" Mum ! .. Grandad's Cresta's run out of petrol again "



Looks as if the staff are eager to move in as a rug has been laid down in the lounge.


The cottages will be served by an un-made dead end lane ( Love Lane?) in front.



Goods shed roof being constructed, rafters and yes ! tile battens, these were all exposed inside on the prototype. The roof has a glazed centre section.

The carpenters turned up to start cladding the top half of the granary with feather edge boards.

The source is home brewed laser cut 0.4mm ply. But you don't need to have a laser, it's quite easily cut with a steel square and Stanley knife.

Chaos at Love Lane station whilst alterations are taking place !
Granddad got Brahms down the Jack Tar after winning on the horses, couldn't decide which form of transport to get home on, left his Cresta in the middle of the road at the bus stop and fell asleep upright against the station entrance !

It's not really feather edged. It would be a good trick with a laser cutter and certainly not one I could pull off.

Some further work seen today at Love Lane.

Bob assembled the bay road buffer stops and gave them a coat of initial rust. These are home grown 3D printed.




Meanwhile work continues on the goods shed with the canopy brackets now fitted.


The tile batten 'frame' and rafters are not fitted properly yet as the purlins are to be fixed first.

Other works currently being worked on include a new replacement baseboard south of the station road bridge, point work operating mech., initial mortar and painting of the cottages. Photos in due coarse.

A busy time at Love Lane today.

First up a new baseboard, we decided to replace the original board as it had been messed around with alterations and extensions and it was thought better to have one solid board to cover what is intended on that part of the layout which is basically the town urban scene.
The board was assembled upside down cut from 9.0 mm ply with the sides, cross braces and surface housed together.
The shot below shows the diagonal bracing being cut to suit.



...and here below the old board sat on trestles in the gap which the new board will fill.



Bob has been busy with the goods shed going over the brickwork with the base colour.



Dave, @S-Club-7 , has been working on and fitted the trap point in the bay road amongst other track work.



Various members have laid the template for the goods yard sidings.



Rhod and Richard worked on the railway company cottages with the pair of semi's getting it's roof.





An addition to the loco roster is another 7MT Britannia class loco 70037 'Hereward the Wake' although here it's asleep in the storage roads having just come off Royal Train duties, no we are not going to build a rake of coaches for the Royal Train, life's too short !
This is another Masterpiece Models example.



......and finally Granddad keeled over having fell asleep earlier and now drifted off into a drunken stupor ! ...or did the local urchins throw a brick bat at him and knocked him out

I don't think it's ever been fitted properly from the start, just goes to show that before the current extension and alterations what we thought was a finished layout never was
