Maiden Newton in EM

Hi Gerry

Many congratulations on your wedding. I do hope you have a long happy healthy life together.

Sorry to hear of your losses - both your mother and good friend. A sign of the times as we get older, tasting both sweet and sour.

Great to see a few more photos of Maiden Newton. That terminal pole, whilst such a simple structure, just adds to the atmosphere to the southern end of the station. I do hope you have time to add more to your layout and share more photos with us.

Hi Pete

Thank you for your kind words. How are you and are you able to make any progress with your Culham project?

I was very pleased with the terminal pole that Pete Squibb made but I do feel I need to weather it a bit more - that is my error as Pete passed it to me unpainted! I've then got to think about the remainder of the the pole route and I may well be enlisting the assistance of a 3D printer for that!

There will be more to follow when there is more to show.

Hi Gerry

I'm not too bad, thank you. Unfortunately no progress has been made to Culham over the winter. I have added a couple of class 61xx locos to the stud, but other than that, I've stayed in the warmth of the house rather than set foot in the garage down the bottom of the garden!

I've not even considered looking for telegraph poles for Culham, but having seen your example, I must pay closer attention to photos of the station area as they really do make a difference to the scene as you've shown.

Hopefully, we'll get more views of Maiden Newton soon.

Regards

Hi Gerry

What medium did you use to attach the cork to the baseboard, the templot to the cork and the sleeper to the templot? I'm at that stage and don't want to go wrong by using something that could be problematic going forward.

I hope you have managed to do a little more on Maiden Newton.

Hi Pete,

I use PVA for the cork to the baseboard and allow it to set overnight, I then use spray mount to stick the templates to the cork, allow a couple of hours for that to go off. I put down masking tape along the ballast shoulders ( these can be set in Templot) I then spread a thin layer of PVA and then place the sleepers and timbers in situ and ballast it all. Allow 24 hours to set and hoover up the residue ballast. I then start putting down the pre-chaired rail. I find it easier than trying to ballast after the rail has been laid.

Thank you, Phil

I was going to use EMGS track so sleepers, chairs and rails are all in situ. I did think of laying ply sleepers and then place the flexitrack on it, in between the existing sleepers, then attach chairs and finally remove the flexi sleepers and chairs. Not sure if that would work though.

Pete,

I would experiment with a short piece of plain track, sticking it down and ballasting it at the same time, to save trying to get the glue in and around the sleepers.

Alternative approach, to lay track, javis ballast dry, mist with water and then use diluted latex glue - bit old fashioned?
