Check before you go! A gang of us turned up one Saturday, and was told that the museum was closed on weekends. Admittedly, this was preCovid, but ….. nowadays? Annoyed us, we had to go to the pub and the Winter Gardens - not exactly what we were after. Hey ho.

It was only a good sob story that got me admitted on the day the museum was closed for clean up, following a two-day Xmas Market, thanks to really friendly staff.
So the 12,000hp steam engine wasn't in operation, but that didn't matter. That such a behemoth can be reversed within 2 seconds (important for rolling thick steel plate), is amazing.
Engine reversals can be seen at 5:42 and 6:09 in this 7-1/2 minute video.
The Yorkshire diesel-electric loco is at the rear of the museum in the car park - from where this view of a weir on the River Don was taken.

Come to think of it, I do not recollect any of us with gloat bags for purchases. Brian had a plastic press-close bag of goodies that he had made at home - the panel of pressed louvres was to die for; Brian (@Brian McKenzie) could you post a photo? Mike had his recent build of a mid 19th century PO wagon as bought/ re-built by the Midland Railway Coy.. I had brought a GCR coal wagon bought from Steamline Ltd.... although it was fitted with 0-FS standard wheels I was attracted to the model because Steamline reported that the wagon had a builder's plate for Mike Osbourne.
I am able to say that Mike appeared to be pleased to see a model that he had made twenty years ago.
