7mm MR type 2b signal box (Rail Model ex LasercraftDevon kit)

This year I have been dabbling in all things MR/LMS.

I`ve had a life long habit of building a company signal box to go with whatever post Grouping locomotive I build.

I`ve always been impressed with Lasercraftdevon products and have quite a few unbuilt GWR building kits.

Luckily, I recently snapped up the last MR 2b signal box kit available on the now Rail Model website and have almost completed the build.

I made a decision to paint most of the parts before assembly to keep some nice crisp colour lines between the main colour scheme as there is a lot of timber framing overlays to consider.

Tis a lovely accurate kit with the exception of the front and rear cladding lengths being almost 2mm short.

The walkway supporting brackets are very fine laser cut mdf but sadly are as much use as a chocolate teapot. I used them but they are very weak structurally. NB to self. Not everything works in lasercut wood.

I always prefer to use Yorkmodels roof tiles, but the kit comes with its own laser cut tiles.

Reading up I note that the LMS took many years to adopt the new livery scheme for signal boxes and My period is to be mid 1930`s so I have chosen my own sort of hybrid interchange livery. My thoughts on original MR signal box colours do not model or photograph well for my liking, so Rule 1 has applied.

See what you think folks.............

The kit does not supply the walkway sefety rails....... you try soldering very fine brass wire.... not sure if they will stand the test of time.......

I`m still deciding on the walkway colour scheme and have still ti tidy up the staircase sides.

Should I paint the guttering and down pipe black ??????

The roof is fully detailed internally and is removable so a full inside detailing will have to be considered and lighting!!!!

I really liked this kit............

That looks very nice, John.

I have the same kit which I hope to be able to turn into the little square (4A) box, simply by removing one of the three sections and joining the hip ends together. This example is at Carnforth (doesn't look like they made such a good job of it as you!):

Was it the weatherboard or upper vertical boarding which was too short (not that it should be a problem if I'm shortening the sides anyway)?

Thanks Tony,

It`s the lower weatherboard cladding front and back. You`ll have plenty of window frames as the kit suggests sandwiching some glazing betwenn two frames, but I prefer tho keep the window profile slimmer and used 0.5mm clear acrylic sheet from Yorkmodels glued to a single window frame.
